Chapter 14 - Pack Of Wolves: Only If

Forest Of Acrata....

After chasing away the black Raven, Linda did well to put off the fire that was the aftermath of her little duel with the Raven. She is relieved that the Raven wouldn't scare the baby again, now that she has chased it away.

She really didn't see where the Raven had flown off to, neither did she really bother about the destination of the black Raven. As long as, the Raven wouldn't scare the baby she just found and adopted, she was fine with it.

Only if she knew that the Raven wasn't actually the reason why the baby had cried. Only if she knew that the baby had only cried to warn her of the demon that had taken the shape of a Raven.

At least, the baby is relieved that the lady got rid of the Raven before it does anything bad.

Too bad, Linda could not sense the dark energy emanating from the Raven and just thought the Raven was just like every other Raven bird. Her strength and magic wasn't that much enough, for her to sense the dark energy emanating from the Raven.

The baby, being one of the reborn versions of the Angel of war and being an extraordinary baby,it was quite easy for him to detect the dark energy that the Raven possessed.

-----

Linda walked back to the baby who lay on the grass floor of the forest.

She knelt down on the grass once again and scooped him into her arms. She pressed him to her chest, allowing his head to rest on her breasts.

"Hope you are okay, piggy. I already scared away the Raven,so there's no need to be scared and also,no crying. You're just too cute to be crying".

Linda said to the baby in a sincere sweet mother's voice.

The baby smiled. He chuckled inwardly and for sure, Linda didn't know that the baby chuckled inwardly at her words.

'Who said I was scared of a demon. I'm just trying to warn you of the danger since you are too weak to sense it'.

The baby thought aloud.

Still, Linda couldn't hear the baby's thoughts. Her focus was on the smile which he had on his face that seemed to be contrary to his thoughts.

"Don't worry, I'm going to adopt you. I'm going to take care of you and protect you,so you can trust me on that one. Moreover, I'm also going to take you as my son while you take me as your mother".

Linda says once again, with a smile forming on her lips. She didn't really expect the baby to listen to what she was saying. Besides, he's a baby, it's expected of him not to hear.

But only if she knew that the baby heard every word she says.

'I'm not sure if I am the one to be protected or you. But if you are going to take me to your house and take me as your own, you should better get used to me being mysterious'.

The baby thought aloud, again, while chuckling within himself.

Being an extraordinary baby, he's intelligent as the soul that got merged with his original soul.

"Don't worry,piggy. We'll be going home soon".

Linda assured after some moments of staring at the baby in her arms.

She can't really shake off the fact that he's the most beautiful creature she had ever seen. Not to lie, this baby had the facial appearance of a merman. He's just so cute that she can't stop observing his features.

This steeled her resolve about she, going to take him as her own and protect him like her own child.

Only if she knew that the child before her is one of the reborn versions of the Angel of war. The very Angel she serves and worships. The very Angel that blessed her with magic.

Only if she knew that the other reborn version of the Angel of war was the son of a Governor.

However, taking and adopting this mysterious baby as her own, sets her life on a different path. Taking this baby as her child and willing to raise and breed him, fulfills one phrase of the prophecy. That would change her fate forever.

Though, only if she knew.

Linda gets on her feet and is ready to journey back to were she had left her firewoods and her bag. She had finally found the baby that's the source of those never ending cries and she's willing to adopt him and take him as her own.

Nevertheless, there's one little problem. The problem unfolds to be the fact that she couldn't use her wind abilities in flying to where she had kept her things, while also carrying a baby in her arms.

This means that, using wind magic or controlling the wind takes a lot of concentration unlike fire magic. She fears that if she looses concentration while carrying the baby and flying in the air, there's likely to be a crash, with her falling down from the sky. Gaining concentration back after loosing it would be a lot of stress. With how cute the baby is, for sure she is going to loose concentration.

She decided to use foot in trekking down to where she had earlier kept the already gathered firewoods and her bag. Once she gets there, she would probably think of a way to carry both the firewoods, the bag and the newly found mysterious baby to her house. She would probably use magic.

With that in mind, Linda turned to an unknown direction and using personal instincts, she started her little journey. Journeying through the woods, she made good use of her legs as she continued walking in between huge and thick trees that surrounded her.

As she walked, from time to time, she would observe the beautiful baby she was taking to her home and with every observation, she would notice that the baby is staring at her. Sometimes, reaching out for her face with his little arms.

This little act of the baby would undeniably make her smile,a lot.

The part of the woods where she had kept her bag and firewoods was in sight when she heard, the inevitable.

Linda gasped in sudden fright when she heard the simultaneous howling of wolves that seemed to be heading her direction.

"Aaaaaooohhh!!!"

The simultaneous howling of wolves got to her ears and she gasped in sudden fright. She stopped walking and looked around her, but it is obvious that she didn't hear wrong.

"Wolves!!"

Linda absentmindedly said in response to the continuous howls she was hearing.

She was able to connect the dots and figure out that the wolves were actually heading her direction. Picking up her pace, once again, she continued walking but this time, she walked faster. She walked as fast as her legs could carry her (and the baby). She didn't even know when she broke into a run.

After five minutes of running in order to avoid the wolves that seemed to be heading her direction, she got to the place where she had left her gathered firewoods and her bag.

Without thinking twice, she knelt down on the ground and picked her bag with her right hand. In her haste, she was about carrying the firewoods on her head when the inevitable happened.

Howls of wolves immediately caught her attention. By the time she turned to look at the direction of were the howls came from, she was already surrounded by wolves.

At first, she was shocked to the core.

How did the wolves get to her so fast? Could they have passed another direction?

But then,it hit her like a plague. She suddenly realized that wolves have magnificent keen sense of smell. The wolves must have picked up her scent when she had stopped earlier and they had probably traced her using her scent.

How stupid can she be!

Linda observed her surrounding and she noticed that she was well surrounded by the wolves and there seemed to be no way she could escape them.

Her eyes left the wolves that were approaching her from all sides as if she was a prey. Her eyes fell on the baby in her arms and for some reason (maybe seeing how handsome the baby is) she decided she would protect him with her life.

But who would save her from this tragedy that she had found herself in.

Maybe, if she had stayed put and gathered her firewoods and left for home, she wouldn't have encountered these wolves.

Or maybe, if she had not heard the cries of this mysterious beautiful child, she wouldn't have found herself in this predicament. But for some reason, she steeled her resolve and once again, she vowed internally to protect the baby.

She gathered courage and stood on her feet. Her eyes moving through the approaching wolves from all sides. Some were snarling angrily at her while some barked at her.

Linda was able to count the number of wolves that surrounded her and they seemed to be a pack,a pack of wolves. They were numbering about ten to fifteen if not more.

Would she be able to escape alive with the baby?

Only if she knew that in this case, reverse would be. Only if she knew that the baby in her arms would actually be the one who would save her. Only if.
