Chapter 19 - The Raven's Message

The beautiful baby stood on his two tiny feet as he stared wide eyed at the lady that is just a few feet away from him. He once again looked utterly beautiful, cute and handsome even though he was undeniably covered in blood. At this, Linda couldn't help but marvel at the sight of the beautiful creature just a few feet away from her.

The baby didn't waste time in taking little strides towards the lady. Simultaneously, Linda's heart beat quickened in nervousness, seeing the baby walking towards her.

Eventually, the baby got to Linda. He raised his two tiny hands up, sending a message to Linda that she should carry him. Linda, also didn't waste time in taking the baby into her arms.

Settling into Linda's arms, the baby stretched out his little arms in a bid to touch Linda's face. Linda actually allowed the baby to touch her face and she couldn't help but smile.

'Aren't we going home,mother? I already took care of the threats'.

Linda heard a baby's voice speak to her in her mind, also startling her in it's wake.

Linda stared briefly at the baby's cute blue eyes before quickly replying in her mind.

'You really are one of a kind,son'. Linda replied in her mind, earning a cute pout from the baby in her arms. 'But it will be better if we go home'.

The baby, hearing the lady's final reply, washed away the pout with an impressive smile that made Linda's heart swell.

Also,it shows that Linda finally accepted the mysterious baby as her own. Despite the fact that the baby was odd and mysterious, Linda ignored it and wished to keep the baby as her own. On top of that, his orgin would have made it harder for Linda to accept the baby as her own, but she ignored it all.

Without wasting much time, Linda took slow steps as she interwined her way through the pack of dead wolves laying on the ground. The atmosphere was quite chilly but she didn't care. She got to the place where she had earlier kept her bag and picked it up, slipping it on her shoulder.

Although,it took her a few minutes to locate the place where she had kept her earlier gathered firewoods. She found it a few meters away from the pack of dead wolves. She didn't really know how the firewoods got there but she concluded that it must be because of the earlier explosion, caused by the baby to take down those six wolves that dared to attack her. Besides that,as a result of the explosion, everything within 15 meters were blown away, that could explain why the firewoods were a few meters away from the pack of dead wolves.

Getting to the firewoods, she became confused on how to carry both the baby and the firewoods home,as well as the bag on her shoulder. Confusion was well etched on her face and the baby caught sight of that.

Deciding to help her out, the baby once again spoke in her mind;

'Why don't you use magic? Wouldn't it be better if you just cast a spell'.

The baby spoke.

Linda's confused look was immediately replaced with a smile.

"Oh! Forgot that I am a witch with magical abilities" .

Linda said truthfully.

She quickly casted a simple spell and the firewoods started floating in the air. Though, the firewoods didn't float that high but at least,it was a few meters away from the ground.

Their journey to Linda's home wasn't really a long one. Though, Linda was quite tired after going through a lot that evening. But at least, she returned home with a baby she had discovered in the forest. Let's say, the baby is some kind of trophy that was given to her by fate, for facing a lot that evening.

Nevertheless,it was good to be going home, safe and sound and with a baby in her arms. A baby she had always wanted.

It was when she got to the clearing that surrounded her little home, did she remember her darling cat Delia, which she left at home all through the evening. She felt guilty that she had wasted a lot of time (a whole lot of time) while gathering firewoods, therefore, leaving Delia at home, alone and lonely.

Guilt washed over her for leaving her darling cat at home and alone for so long. But she quickly brushed it off, realising it wasn't her fault.

But if it wasn't her fault,then who's fault is it?

Though in her own terms, she would rather blame fate and of course, the beautiful baby in her arms.

It didn't take long for Linda to pass through the clearing where she had single handedly planted crops and some flowers.

Linda got to her little house and she didn't waste time in pushing open the door. She stepped into the house and everything was pitch black.

'That was odd!'

Linda thought simultaneously.

Normally, anytime she comes back from gathering firewoods, the house is always illuminated by candle lights especially the fact that, Delia hated the dark. Also, anytime she comes back either from harvesting her crops or gathering a few woods for the fireplace, Delia is always at the door ready to welcome her.

But seeing the whole house, pitch black without a single light and also not hearing Delia's frequent 'meows', gave her a creepy feeling of danger. She took her gaze over to the baby in her arms and despite how dark it is in the house, she was able to notice that the baby had fallen asleep.

She smirked satisfactorily.

She didn't even notice earlier that the child had fallen asleep.

Without wasting much time, she closed the door and walked a little bit into the ever dark living room. She snapped her finger and the lights of the fire candles came on. The whole living room was well illuminated by the candles immediately she snapped her fingers. What came into sight next, shocked her to the core.

Subsequently, Delia her darling cat, was sitting on the sofa in the living room. She was surrounded by a ring made of black must that displayed dark magic. The ring of black must, equally restricted her movement making her constricted to one spot. Her emerald green eyes seemed to be pleading to Linda for help and for sure, Linda was gonna get her out of that ring of black mist.

The well illuminated living room as a result of the candles giving light from each and every corner of the living room, made her to see who or what had captured Delia,her darling cat.

A black Raven with pitch black eyes wasn't far from where Delia lay, constricted by the ring of black mist. Being the only thing apart from Delia in the living room, Linda concluded that the Raven must have been the one that had captured Delia.

But the question that plagued her mind was;

'How could a Raven bird be in possession of dark magic and why would it capture her darling cat?'

With this question plaguing her mind, Linda stared wide eyed at the Raven.

With her sharp memory, she quickly recognized the Raven to be the black Raven she had scared away. The Raven that could probably be the reason why the baby was crying earlier, while being alone in the forest.

She decided to once again scare away the Raven, ignoring the fact that the Raven could actually not be an ordinary Raven. But before she could even take a step;

"I wouldn't do that if I were you". The Raven spoke. "I wouldn't be having you chasing me away, again".

Linda was momentarily taken aback but she composed herself almost immediately.

"Who are you?" She asked with a scrutinizing gaze. "And please, free my cat".

Linda demanded. The Raven gave an awkward nod. It spread out it's black wings and the black mist surrounding Delia, vanished.

Delia, being set free,ran up to her mistress and hid behind her, meowing repeatedly as it seemed she was scared of the black Raven. The Raven spoke once again;

"Now that your cat is free, I will tell you who I am and why I am here".

"Then go on".

Linda demanded impatiently.

The Raven chuckled sensing Linda's impatience. It narrowed it's eyes at her but didn't do anything, instead it spoke again;

"I am the Unknown. I am a demon and the messenger and servant of the last surviving Ancestral Angel, Tamara. I have a message for you".

"Why would an Angel send a demon on an errand".

Linda inquired with a raised eyebrow.

Hearing both words 'Demon and Angel' respectively, she couldn't help but ask.

"Actually, the answer to your question is only an information I and my mistress share". The Raven said. "However, my message is mostly concerned with the baby in your arms".

The Raven said while smirking obviously.

Linda's gaze drifted to the baby in her arms. She frowned a little but brushed off the frown immediately.

"Then, out with the message".

Linda said as her gaze went back to the Raven.

@@@

After thirty minutes,a black Raven is seen flying and making it's way out of Linda's house. The message has been delivered.
