Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Eyeing Her Husband?

Upon hearing this, Clara Bennett was stunned.

Wasn't this statement meant to be taken literally?

On second thought, William Foster was incapable of...

Even if he had intentions, he was powerless.

Perhaps the other party was being prideful, or deliberately saying this hoping she'd let it go.

If Samuel Grant could taste the bitter fruit, she wouldn't mind living in an empty room forever.

If by some stroke of luck, William Foster's illness was cured, he might be eager to divorce her.

Who can predict the future?

"I am willing!" Clara said firmly.

William squinted his eyes, "Then how do you plan to deal with my so-called nephew?"

As far as he knew, the two were about to get engaged.

"I will take care of it properly, and I promise not to disappoint Mr. Foster!" Clara responded earnestly.

A hint of cunning flashed in the man's eyes, "Wait for me in the car!"

William Foster had just stepped through the Grant Family gates when Samuel Grant hurried out, looking for Clara.

Not seeing her, he immediately dialed her number.

Clara glanced at her phone and put it on silent,

When the call didn't go through, Samuel's handsome face twisted into a scowl.

He contacted Daisy Stone.

"Clara was acting a bit strange today. Just when we were about to get engaged, she suddenly changed her mind! Did you say something to make her suspicious?"

...

Half an hour later, William returned to the car, still looking relaxed, and asked, "Have you decided?"

"What do you mean?" Clara was perplexed.

William's gaze turned slightly cold, "If you've changed your mind, you can still get out now."

"I have no regrets!" Clara quickly replied.

She had already been through life and death; there was nothing she hadn't seen, nothing to fear.

What could be more tragic and painful than a broken family and betrayal by loved ones?

"It's better to strike while the iron is hot; today is a perfect day for marriage! Is it convenient for Miss Bennett to get the marriage certificate?"

There was really no need to rush...

Clara bit her lip, "But I didn't bring my ID!"

William sat back leisurely, crossing his legs, and called out casually: "Daniel."

Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of the Bennett Residence.

"Go get it."

He really did as he was rumored to be—decisive!

At this time, only Thomas Bennett wasn't home, so she easily got her household registration booklet.

The whole process took less than ten minutes to complete.

After coming out, Clara looked at the marriage certificate in her hand, feeling like it was all a dream.

Her heart was filled with complex emotions.

In her previous life, on the eve of getting the certificate with Samuel Grant, she was too excited to sleep the entire night.

Early in the morning, after getting ready, she couldn't wait to stand at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau.

The moment she held the marriage certificate, she thought she was the happiest person in the world.

In hindsight, what a huge irony!

"Let me keep it for you!"

In no time, the still warm marriage certificate was stuffed into his chest pocket.

"..."

"Want to go back to the Foster family with me?"

This sudden decision caught her off guard.

"Mr. Foster, can we keep our current relationship private for now?" Clara tentatively asked.

William's eyes darkened slightly, "Do you think I'm not good enough?"

If even he wasn't good enough, there wouldn't be many better in all of Ocean City!

"Please don't misunderstand, I just want to handle things with Samuel before going back to the Foster family with you, is that okay?"

"I'm quite impatient; I don't like waiting too long, understand?"

He gently brushed a lock of hair from her forehead to behind her ear, his cool fingers brushing her delicate earlobe.

Clara's body tensed, her heart trembled.

Seeing her like this, William couldn't help but laugh, "Get in the car, I'll take you home."

She was so bold when she made the first move but now was so sensitive and shy when touched.

Really interesting.

As soon as she got out of the car, Clara saw Daisy already waiting at the door, eyes filled with intense hatred.

"Clara, who just dropped you off?"

Seeing Clara getting out of a car, Daisy ran up and affectionately took her arm.

"Do I need to report what I do to you?" Clara coldly pulled her hand away, her expression indifferent.

"Clara, what happened?" Daisy asked, bewildered, "Is there something you're not satisfied with?"

What's going on?

Could it be this foolish woman discovered her relationship with Samuel?

Impossible, she had always been very cautious; how could she possibly detect it?

"Daisy, what do you think of me?" Clara asked in a haunting voice.

"Great! If it weren't for meeting you, I might have long been forced to leave school, struggling to survive in a corner. Meeting you is my fortune!"

With arms looped around Clara's, Daisy cautiously inquired, "Clara, didn't you just go to their house with Samuel?"

"Yes, it seems you know quite a bit."

"After all, I'm your best friend, having seen you both go through every step over these years. Naturally, I hope the two of you can be a perfect match."

"But can someone born out of wedlock be worthy of me?"

Daisy looked at her in surprise, "Even though he's illegitimate, he's very outstanding in many ways, a man full of potential. Besides, his feelings for you are genuine; he's always tender and obedient to you..."

"A man that good is hard to come by; many people are envious and jealous."

Previously, with Daisy's pushes from behind, she became more and more attracted to Samuel, even giving him everything.

Thinking of this, a cold gleam crossed Clara's beautiful eyes, "Does that include you?"

Daisy paused for a moment, then her face flushed, "Actually, there's already someone in my heart."

"Who?" Clara asked, keeping her demeanor calm.

She couldn't recall who Daisy ever liked.

"William Foster, Samuel's uncle!"

The name caught her by surprise.

Unexpectedly, Daisy's ambition was so high, aiming at the head of the Foster family—her husband...

"Daisy, how do you know Mr. Foster?"

"Samuel took me to meet him last time, wanting him to find me a job. I was fortunate to meet him, I've been interested ever since."

"But Mr. Foster seems to have some issues in that regard..."

"If everything were perfect, I wouldn't dare to dream of it."

"So you succeeded in securing a job at Foster family?"

"Yes, I came to share the news with you today. Mr. Foster couldn't stop praising my work; from next week, I'll start at the Foster family's fashion department."

Looks like her reborn self is slowly changing certain things...

"Congratulations then!" Clara said with a smile, though her tone was indifferent.

"Clara, don't you want to celebrate with me?" Daisy looked at her with hopeful eyes.

Clara glanced at her, "Such a good thing certainly deserves a grand celebration. Where do you want to go?"

"How about the Marriott Hotel? I'll invite all our university friends; it's a great chance to reconnect."

"Sure! Let me know the room number once you've booked it."

Seeing her agree readily, Daisy finally beamed with joy.
