Friday came too soon and not soon enough if that made sense. I listened to the upbeat song, what ever dream had been interrupted quickly disappearing into the ether. I'd always dreamed, now they were more… logical? At least in a weird way they made sense. Even if they were all over the place.
"Water! Oh! Water first! Hydrate or die!" Gluttony exclaimed as he bounced around my feet.
"On it, yawn." I promised as I went for the kitchen first. I didn't usually drink lurk warm water, but… I'd noticed a difference in my alertness after drinking water first thing. Taking the several moments to chug half the bottle down, I finally felt awake.
I watched as the sins also drank some water as I headed off for the bathroom to get ready. I had about twenty minutes before I had to start walking. Since I'd never been before I wanted to give myself wiggle room.
After brushing my teeth, hair, washing my face, and getting dressed, Gluttony was about to explode. With a laugh I returned to the kitchen for something light.
I didn't want to go to the gym on a full stomach… hmm.
"Bananas are great, bananas are good! Perfect as a pregame meal!" Gluttony chattered away as he circled the last two remaining bananas.
"Sounds good to me." Thankfully, Gluttony didn't breakout into a parody about how great bananas were for you. He was great, helpful for cooking tips, healthy food options, sending me down the foodie rabbit holes. Now… if only he learned to sing better. I checked the glasses, none cracked… yet.
I ate one banana, slicing up the second into seven portions. Half for Gluttony, the other half split into six pieces. "Okay, I'm ready."
"And we're off! Gym day! Let's. Get. Wrecked!!!!" Wrath bellowed as he pumped his fist.
I didn't stop my grin from Wrath's excitement, it was kinda contagious. As the morning breeze blew in I shivered. I quickly locked the door as I slung my backpack on.
Unfortunately, one of the straps was starting to fray… either I'd have to learn to sew or buy another one.
I kept my phone in hand to follow the directions, not that I'd ever get lost. Yeash it was cold! The sins were chattering away, but because people were a thing, I didn't respond.
I cringed remembering the second time I'd met Jake and Jack. Honestly, my first night alone in the apartment almost had me running for the hills. I glanced at the chattering Sins as I played the memory in my head.
I'd just finished my first load of laundry at the apartment. There wasn't much to unpack, so I took quick inventory of the food left behind. There wasn't much, but it was free.
A bag of 30 potatoes, unopened half gallon of milk. Half a dozen of eggs, some fruits and vegetables. Fancy cans of soup, pasta sauce. Easily enough food to last a week, longer if I bought stuff to complement what was already here.
I glanced around, not much else… then I smelled it. Oof, I lifted my arm. Yeash… hopefully… no one else had noticed.
My showers at the motel had been iffy at best. I glanced in the cupboard, score! Snagging the largest plastic cup I headed to the bathroom.
Hello new speakers. I started a podcast then placed my phone in the cup, listening for the best surround sound, I left the cup against the corner wall. Now the phone was safe from splash damage.
I paused the podcast as I filled the tub, too bad I didn't have bath salts or candles… I shook the memory of Arianna away, she'd gotten me into them… soon the steaming bath was full. Pushing play on my podcast, I slowly eased myself into the almost too hot water.
This, this was a luxury… I only had the stolen sample shampoo from the motel and their finger sized bar of soap so no bubbles, but just the near boiling hot water was enough. I let my favorite true crime podcast play as I enjoyed his first bath in what felt like forever.
Clang! I jolted up, looking around for the source of the sound. The podcast had stopped… I must have fallen asleep.
I shivered raising my body out of the noticeably chilled water. Glancing around I realized my phone wasn't peeking out the cup. I lifted myself enough to see my phone face down in the sink…
I shivered as I glanced back at the still standing cup…
"Weird…" I muttered as I turned on the hot water to warm up with a shower. Washing my hair and brushing my teeth under the warm water while mentally I added more items to the list of things I still needed.
Definitely have to pick up more toothpaste. The motel's travel size bottle was nearly empty. As I stepped out of the bathtub, I realized I could hear the podcast… looking up… my phone was in the cup again.
I stared at my phone, then pinched my thigh. Drying my hands on the towel I reached for my phone to check the time. After midnight.
I glanced around… I'd have heard if someone opened the door right? Maybe I… saw my phone through the mirror… and just thought it was in the sink?
"That sound… was probably a neighbor making noise. How thick could apartment walls really be?" I told myself as I died off.
Right… no clean clothes, with a sigh I wrapped the towel around my waist… all my clothes were either dirty… or wet. I gingerly pulled out my freshly washed clothes to bring into the bedroom.
I'd never dried clothes inside so I took Dillon's advice. There were two lines on the far side of the room, only small items on the line closest to the wall, larger on the second line. Thankfully Dillon had left the clips behind, after making sure all the clothes were secure, I turned on the small round fan.
The fan would create circulation, so most of the clothes should be dry by morning. I glanced at the floor… just in case I laid two dirty shirts under the drying clothes to catch the dripping water.
"Add a mat to the ever growing list." I said with sigh as I resecured my towel. Dillon had shown me the one he used to help catch falling water.
He also had a drying rack, might not be such a bad idea to get one as well. With the money I saved on utilities, I should be able to afford one after my first… or maybe second paycheck. A paycheck I couldn't get if I didn't get a job.
I wanted to just sleep, it had been a long day, but I opened my applications… still pending. I used the apartment as a new address to look for more local jobs.
No car so I couldn't even be a delivery driver… with a sigh I applied to be a busboy, and dish washer of a local bar. I couldn't be picky.
It was finally after three by the time I curled up under the comforter, I should buy some pajamas. Yawn, tomorrow. Today? After I wake up.
I had the strangest dreams, if you could even call them that. I'd been in that weird, half awake, but still dreaming state. I heard people talking, then something about my laundry.
My dream had been so realistic the first thing I did was check on my hanging laundry.
Then blinked… I definitely fell asleep with the fan on, right? I felt goosebumps slowly rise along my arms.
Before anything else, getting dressed. The clothes were a bit stiff, but I didn't care. I glanced around my room for anything else out of place. The clothes I'd left on the floor… were gone.
I grabbed my phone… where is a bat when I need one? No, I'm just… overreacting. Maybe Dillon had forgotten something important… I checked for any missed calls or texts… only from mom.
I slowly walked through the apartment… the dirty clothes were all in a pile… were I'd left them last night… maybe… maybe I hadn't left anything under the drying clothes.
It had been late… I was tired. After seeing the deadbolt still secured, I laughed at myself, then started another load of laundry.
