Chapter 5 - The Birth of the Gods and the Song of GINALU

14. Then LUMAD spake unto them, saying,

"Depart, and dwell upon the isles;

set your works upon them, and let your worlds be wrought."

15. And the gods went forth, each unto their isle, and they named the lands and beasts,

and called the winds by their names, and bound the rivers in their courses.

16. And upon Camiguyon, the central isle, LUMAD rested, for the labor of the Beginning was complete.

17. But the gods contended among themselves, desiring their works to surpass the others,

and jealousy flamed like fire among dry reeds.

18. Then came GINALU, eldest of the gods,

the singer who wove songs upon the winds.

19. And GINALU sang before LUMAD, saying,

"Let there be peace among us, O Maker,

for the seas are vast, and the isles are many,

and strife's voice shall trouble the deeps."

20. LUMAD was pleased with GINALU's song, and made him first among the gods,

to be their counselor and keeper of the First Voice.

21. Yet murmurs rose among the gods, and not all were content,

for TALIMUN, god of dreams, spake:

"Shall we forever be beneath another's song,

when each of us is a maker?"
