When most of the high-profile civilians were removed from this border base, only those who couldn't do anything, the sick, and the elderly remained. As for those without professional training, they were trained to be soldiers and used as scavengers.
Everyone had to work, and sadly, the weak would die.
That's how only the strong, skilled, and important people like scientists, doctors, engineers, and technicians survive.
Once the more whining matters were dealt with, Alan knew the time had come to move. He had not only gained the support of the high-ranking soldiers and more than a full squad at this base—not to mention the special forces soldiers stationed at coastal bases—but Stuart was also in position to assist him as soon as the evacuation order was given.
The time they had been moving to prevent FEDRA bombings had shortened after the massive hordes of infected complicated things.
Alan certainly knew enough about this world to fear what FEDRA could now do and to be careful about what someone afraid might do to wipe out the world.
That's why he had prepared ever since he took control of the entire Texas army under Shelton's orders, then sent all the special forces to take the bases near the coasts while he stayed waiting at the front.
Having control over the resource line was essential; that's why the hundreds of tons of supplies sent at one point were because of him.
"The day has come, gentlemen. We will begin taking full control of the base and go against FEDRA. If anyone opposes, don't forget to kill them—it's us or them."
Everyone in front of Alan agreed with this. Many of them did not agree with the unjustified massacres, the mistreatment of survivors, and the unclear communication with civilians.
"They have their targets; I'll take care of Major Jackson, who recently came asking for help." Alan would not hesitate to remove anyone who was a problem for him.
"Are you planning to kill him?" Cole asked among those present.
No one cared about Major Jackson's fate since he had been a complete idiot to them. His extreme orders had pushed the limits of what they could tolerate, so there was little loyalty toward him.
Alan knew this but didn't want to reveal all his thoughts, so he said, "We won't be heartless men. Of course, we won't harm him if he backs off without resisting. Who would I be to take the life of a man who has surrendered?"
"So you mean…"
Sergeant Castro clarified, "The orders are clear: eliminate anyone who exposes themselves against the original orders. If they cause problems, we must eliminate them; if they're not an obstacle, there's no need to attack."
John looked at Alan and said, "Forgive my boldness, but if we leave someone like Jackson alive, he could cause us problems later."
"I'll take care of it," said Alan, who knew this better than anyone.
As soon as the orders were given, all the soldiers stationed in the community gathered in the military vehicles and prepared to leave, leaving only a small group of troops behind.
Riya approached Alan and said, "As soon as you start with that, we'll lose half the forces we gained."
"That doesn't matter. This base is on the verge of collapse."
…
In the distance, everyone was watching the military vehicles drive away, and a civilian, the most nervous of them all, asked, "Where are the soldiers going?"
"I don't know, but this isn't good."
A boy looked at his mother and said, "It'll be fine, they're probably just going to kill more of those things."
"They aren't going to kill infected," Claire, who had seen Alan leave, knew that everything was about to begin.
A man looked at Claire and asked, "Do you know something we don't?"
"The resistance leader will be declaring war against FEDRA today—that means we can consider them enemies."
