Chapter 129 - Chapter 130: Pre-Battle Preparations

"Everything's been scouted. We're getting ready to set an ambush. Come to Gudrian for a bit," Ahsoka said to Amir from inside her ship.

"Alright. It'll be a good chance to see what the Jedi seniors left for me inside the Gudrian temple," Amir said with a smile.

"Heh. And leave Millisyn here, while you're at it. The next part is going to be dangerous," Ahsoka said.

"Ah—! I want to go too! I'm stronger now, I can help!" Millisyn leaned in and shouted at Amir.

"Next time, for sure."

Bringing too many ships wouldn't help. Ahsoka wasn't going to let Amir fight an aerial battle anyway, so Mando's Razor's Peak was left on Tatooine, and everyone boarded the Traveler together.

Amir was also being cautious. Until he fully trusted him, he didn't want the Mandalorian to know the location of the Gudrian base.

By now, No. 32 had basically mastered the ship's operating procedures. Sitting in the co-pilot seat, he was getting more and more comfortable—and on top of that, his speech was becoming smoother too.

Mando sat in the second row of the cockpit, staring at the Traveler's slick, tech-heavy control panels, the weapon systems arranged in two neat rows, and the wide, comfortable hall beyond. He didn't say a word, repeatedly telling himself: Don't be jealous. Don't be jealous. Razor's Peak is my true love.

Obi-Wan casually wandered into the kitchen, grabbed something to eat, then flopped onto the sofa in the main hall to rest in comfort. Seeing that, Millisyn felt cheated and immediately charged after him—straight into the fridge.

After the Traveler launched, it didn't take long for the familiar green planet to appear ahead.

Following the coordinates from last time, Amir flew directly into the fog-wrapped mountain range. Soon, he spotted a rough base carved into the terrain.

The Resistance had leveled the fissure running through the mountain's center, packing it into a solid platform with rubble and soil. Dozens of ships were parked across it, and several dozen people moved below, talking and coordinating.

A long, melodious cry echoed. Recognizing the Traveler, Cloudwing launched from a peak and began circling the ship. On Cloudwing's head, a red-haired girl waved her arm high.

"Veronica!" Millisyn rose onto her toes and waved back.

Amir found his line and set the ship down.

The moment the ship touched down, Millisyn immediately tried to sneak into the kitchen. She hugged a pile of things to her chest and bolted down the ramp in one swift dash.

Obi-Wan, in the hall, also couldn't wait—he went down after her.

"Master Obi-Wan!" Ahsoka was already back, waiting at the entrance. When she saw that familiar-yet-strange figure step into view, her emotions tangled into something complex, as if she'd become the young padawan she'd been ten years ago in a single breath.

But ten years had passed, and Ahsoka was no longer that willful girl.

"Ahsoka…" Obi-Wan's voice carried a weight of its own. His eyes held nostalgia, relief—and deep guilt.

Obi-Wan knew what Anakin meant to Ahsoka. The bond between Ahsoka and Anakin was as deep as the bond between Obi-Wan and Anakin.

And Obi-Wan hadn't saved him. Worse—Obi-Wan had raised a blade against him, leaving behind hatred that could never be erased.

As he stepped down, Amir quietly sensed Qui-Gon hiding in a corner and thought: Four generations under one roof, huh. Just with him occupying Anakin's slot.

But Obi-Wan and Ahsoka didn't sink into the past the way Amir might have imagined. Both of them were steady now—those feelings were kept inside, not allowed to derail the present.

Ahsoka had already told Obi-Wan over comms what she'd been doing with the Resistance, so Obi-Wan had a general sense of the situation here.

"Seeing you makes me feel a lot more at ease," Ahsoka said, leading Obi-Wan toward the interior of the ruins. The place had been converted into a Resistance command center, housing the most important communications network.

"And seeing your efforts makes me feel at ease," Obi-Wan said quietly. "All these years, I've been hiding—so much that I even forgot resistance was possible. And you're still the same as you were, Ahsoka."

Ahsoka laughed. "Then welcome back."

Cloudwing flapped down from the air and landed in front of Amir. Veronica jumped down from its back, cheeks flushed.

"You're addicted to flying now, huh," Amir teased.

"I'm not! I just… sometimes," Veronica denied stubbornly.

Amir stepped forward, patted Cloudwing's head, and fed it some jerky. Off to the side, he spotted Millisyn and Mona happily eating ice cream—one each.

My ice cream… Amir thought, imagining his dwindling stash. He decided that from now on, he had to limit how often Millisyn got snacks.

Millisyn—completely unaware of the bleak future awaiting her—chattered excitedly to Mona about everything she'd seen these past few days. When she got worked up, she even pointed at No. 32, who stood nearby, gesturing animatedly.

No. 32 rubbed his shiny head. Somehow, his back felt itchy.

After greeting a few familiar faces like Pax, Amir also headed deeper into the ruins. The once-empty hall was now packed with mechanical equipment and lines of cabling, with people rushing back and forth in constant motion.

"Do we have a plan?" Amir asked Ahsoka, who stood in front of a holographic projection.

"This is the terrain around the base. We didn't risk going inside to scout," Ahsoka said.

"This is already very good," Amir said, studying the holo. The base was built inside a mountain. The surrounding cliffs were steep and sheer, impossible to climb. Only at the mountain's highest point was there a designated landing area for ships. The overall footprint wasn't very wide, but it was extremely tall—the base ran from the summit all the way to the foothills, with no telling how many levels it had.

Ahsoka explained to Amir and Obi-Wan, "Our people found an abandoned cave at the base of the mountain. It was probably a space left behind when they built the facility. That cave leads straight to the base's outer wall."

"We'll split into two teams. I'll lead the fleet in a frontal assault to draw their defensive forces. You two will lead an insertion team from the bottom—breach the base directly, find the children, and pull them out in the chaos."

"If possible, steal any data you can from inside. It'll help a lot with the children's later treatment. We'll go over details on the way."

Amir thought for a moment. "We'll get in first. I'll find a way to cut their communications—buy time before reinforcements can arrive and reduce your pressure."

Ahsoka nodded. "You're the key to this operation. If we get the children out, we've accomplished half our objective. Don't take risks."

After the discussion, Amir led Obi-Wan deeper into the ruins.

There was still one unopened thing waiting for him down there.
