The entire arena was in chaos. Once they reached the upper levels, no one paid any attention to Amir and the others.
They found an emergency exit, and the group made their way out one by one.
"Get a doctor!!" Amir located a two-seat speeder and helped Chewbacca onto it.
"Can you fly this thing?" Amir asked.
His answer was a roar.
"Good."
Then he placed Rango beside Chewbacca and jumped on his own bike.
In the distance, several Imperial troop carriers were flying in. It was impressive how quickly they responded.
Two speeders and one speeder craft raced off into the distance.
"Faster—we need to get to Victor. These wounds are too severe," Amir said, glancing at Rango's trembling form.
They weaved through narrow streets, turning corner after corner, until they finally arrived in a familiar district and stopped at a quiet intersection.
Amir helped Rango off the bike. Chewbacca, barely managing, stood up on his own.
Veronica quickly pushed open a metal door, and the four of them hurried down a staircase.
At the bottom was a sealed alloy door. Veronica hit the buzzer.
"Victor! Victor! Open the door!!!"
A small slit opened beside the door. A camera-like eye emerged, scanning the surroundings. Then the alloy door burst open, revealing an elderly Rodian.
"Get in, quick!"
Amir rushed Rango inside and placed him on a medical bed. Chewbacca slumped into a nearby chair.
"His injuries are severe, but it's manageable. I just got a new medbay pod—military surplus, practically unused," Victor said as he began treating Rango.
"You—hairball—get into the old pod yourself."
"Amir, help clean off his clothes. I'll treat his wounds."
The green-skinned, bug-eyed medic was as reliable as ever. Amir let out a sigh of relief and hurried to assist.
After half an hour of work, Rango was finally placed in the new pod.
"Good thing we had this newer pod. He won't suffer any lasting damage. His muscles were nearly torn apart and the bones shattered. He almost lost the arm," Victor said, then glanced at Veronica's mechanical left arm.
"Thanks, Old Vic. We owe you."
"No problem. Just pay me."
"Of course."
The three of them sat down on chairs in the clinic.
"So, what the hell did you guys get into tonight?"
"We didn't start it—got dragged into it," Amir explained everything.
Victor adjusted his jacket and slumped back onto the couch. He'd already been asleep before they arrived.
"This part of town's been getting messy lately. Something's going on—power struggle maybe."
Hearing that, Amir immediately thought of Senil's face.
"Maybe."
"I heard they just opened a new theme park out by Bosalia. You folks should go relax."
"It's that tense now, huh? You trying to kick me out?"
"The boss of Black Sun pissed off the wrong people and got killed. Now every ambitious punk wants a piece of Coruscant. And we're right in the central district—the Imperial Palace is just down the street."
"I'm thinking of going to Tatooine."
"Why the hell would you go to that dusty rock? To sunbathe?"
"I need to find someone."
Night settled into silence.
The next morning, Victor opened the medbay pods, and the two wounded climbed out.
Rango's green skin showed no trace of injury, and Chewbacca looked as energetic as ever.
Seeing Amir and Veronica asleep in the waiting room, Rango lowered his head in guilt, unsure what to say.
Amir suddenly smiled. "You fought well—nothing to be ashamed of."
Veronica, legs crossed, didn't say anything. She was busy calming Xiao Jie via her comm—he hadn't come along last night.
Just then, Amir's comm beeped.
He opened it and, to his surprise, saw Ahsoka's image.
"Got time for a chat?" the Togruta asked.
"Kind of. Had a rough night," Amir replied. He'd dreamed of Tatooine again.
"How are things on your end?"
"Thanks to your holologger, we've uncovered a lot of Republic-era tech—and even found a few good spots for base camps," Ahsoka said, sounding genuinely pleased.
"And thanks for what you did for Hark and the others. They wouldn't have escaped without you." She looked toward Veronica. "You're the one he said wanted to join us, right?"
"Who's this?" Veronica turned to Amir.
"Hark's superior. Ahsoka," Amir said with a smirk.
"Hi, I'm Veronica," she said, slightly shy.
"Hello. Hark told me about you. You're welcome to join us anytime," Ahsoka smiled.
"How are the kids doing?" Veronica asked.
"They're safe for now. No symptoms. Our people are analyzing the research we recovered—looking for a cure."
Then a golden head popped into frame.
"Amir! Veronica!" Guligena chirped joyfully. "The children are doing fine. I've sensed it—they're going to heal."
Guligena seemed to have recovered well.
"That's good to hear," Amir said, visibly relieved.
"The reason I called—we've found traces of Guligena's people. But the lead goes cold on Coruscant. We were hoping you could help."
Amir touched the kyber crystal hanging from his neck. "What exactly do you have?"
"The Empire sold them off to the Hutts—a deal made by a rogue officer. We don't know where the Hutts took them," Ahsoka explained, frowning.
"I think I remember something," Rango said, walking in, now dressed.
Everyone turned to look at him—this was an unexpected breakthrough.
"I used to hear sounds coming from some crates at the port. Didn't think much of it until now. I can go back and check the records."
"We'd appreciate that," Ahsoka replied.
"It's no trouble. I want to help. I'll contact you if I find anything," Rango said.
After the call, the group chatted for a while longer. Chewbacca occasionally let out low growls.
In the end, Rango and Chewbacca decided to stay on Coruscant to investigate the slave trade, while Amir and Veronica would head to Tatooine.
So much had happened lately that Amir felt increasingly uneasy. The answers he sought and his recurring visions both urged him to move forward.
"It's time," Amir said, seated in the pilot's chair of the Traveler.
After bidding farewell to the Mels family, he packed up a lot of gear. He had a feeling this trip would keep him away for a long time.
Veronica sat in the co-pilot's seat, familiarizing herself with the controls.
The ship slowly departed the port and set course for the endless stars.
