Jayvaughn looked down at the phone and then back at Axel, his expression hardening.
He spoke into the receiver with a stern, authoritative tone that demanded an immediate answer. "Jaimie, why aren't you saying anything else? Tell me exactly how you were able to beat up those boys by yourself. I want to know the truth."
Axel felt a surge of frantic energy beneath his calm exterior. His mind raced as he realized they were on the precipice of a complete exposure.
Axel forced himself to take a deep breath, pushing the panic down so he could think clearly. He decided that before Jaimie could say something that would out both him and Marlon, he had to take control of the narrative.
"I think this was probably Mar's doing," Axel interjected, his voice steady and casual.
Jayvaughn turned toward him, his eyebrows shooting up in confusion. "Mar? Does Mar even know how to fight? Is there something about her that I didn't know before."
