Axel acted on instinct, the bullet spray from the surviving men already tearing into the leaves above their heads. He quickly yanked the cab driver down, forcing him to lay flat on the ground so they could cover themselves and ensure that no stray bullet would touch them.
Thank goodness for the dense, thick shrubs and bushes that now perfectly concealed both Axel's body and the cab driver's bulk.
Axel immediately noticed the sounds of the gunfire were getting nearer than before. He wasn't stupid; he quickly realized that those two remaining men were actively moving closer to the tree, which had been their hiding place.
If those men caught them while they were still clinging to that area, the situation would be fatal for Axel. He needed to quickly change his position so he could retaliate from a new angle.
