Later that night, Axel and Jayvaughn were tucked away in Axel's childhood bedroom at his parents' house. Jaimie, who had been staying with Axel's family for the week, already had his own room and had gone to bed earlier. So, it was just the two of them in the room.
Jayvaughn had already taken his shower and was lounging on the bed, dressed in comfortable loungewear, scrolling through his phone with one hand resting under his head. The soft sound of the water running in the bathroom signaled that Axel was still in the shower. Everything felt calm, normal.
Then Axel's phone, placed on the nearby vanity table, started to ring.
Jayvaughn looked up, glanced at the screen, and called out in a relaxed tone, "Babe, your phone is ringing."
He waited, but there was no response. The water was probably too loud for Axel to hear him. Jayvaughn got up, padded over to the bathroom door, and raised his voice just a little. "Babe, your phone's ringing!"
