The private dinner house was quiet and dimly lit, tucked away in a secluded area Jayvaughn had always used for confidential meetings. Tonight was no exception. He sat alone at the long wooden table until he heard the sound of the front door opening.
Lucian stepped inside with his usual military sharpness and didn't waste time with pleasantries.
"Did your boyfriend help us with hacking EVE's surveillance tech?" he asked bluntly, as he took the seat opposite Jayvaughn.
Jayvaughn leaned back, unfazed. "He said he'll get it done tonight."
Lucian frowned instantly, eyes narrowing. "The party is tomorrow night, and he's just getting to it now? You think he can pull it off before then?"
Jayvaughn's expression tightened. "Of course he can. Don't tell me you're doubting Axel's abilities."
"I'm not trying to look down on him," Lucian replied, raising both hands slightly. "But I just don't get why he's only starting now. Or maybe it's your fault. Did you even tell him earlier?"
