Axel couldn't stop crying, the tears spilling down his cheeks in a relentless stream. His chest ached, and even as Jayvaughn tried to soothe him, his sobs only grew louder. Jayvaughn didn't try to stop the hits raining against his chest; he simply took them all, gently murmuring, "Please stop crying, baby. I'm sorry… I'm really sorry."
But Axel wasn't ready to stop yet.
"I didn't want people to know about us," Axel cried between sobs, his fists weakly pounding against Jayvaughn. "I just wanted to protect our family—especially little Jaimie. Someone's already targeting your company, and we don't even know who it is or how dangerous they are. I thought… I thought if I could just make peace with you, we'd be okay."
Jayvaughn listened in stunned silence, heart breaking with every word Axel managed to say through his tears.
