Just like Jayvaughn had said on the phone earlier, less than thirty minutes after he texted Axel that he was on his way home, the sound of the front door unlocking echoed through the house.
Axel, who had been looking at the door like an eager puppy, immediately lit up. Without wasting a second, he dashed toward the door. As soon as it opened, he flung himself into Jayvaughn's arms.
"I missed you so much," Axel murmured, wrapping himself around Jayvaughn like he never wanted to let go.
Jayvaughn looked down at him with an unreadable expression. There was amusement behind his eyes, the kind that said he knew exactly why Axel was being so extra affectionate tonight. He stared at Axel long and hard, waiting for the boy to squirm.
Caught, Axel avoided Jayvaughn's eyes and chuckled nervously. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Jayvaughn smirked faintly. "Nothing."
