The Military Tower stood like a silent sentinel at the heart of the capital, its upper levels converted into a massive command center.
Dimly lit by flickering chakra lamps and the glow of dozens of communication arrays, the circular room hummed with tension.
Large war maps covered the walls, marked with glowing markers showing troop positions that were changing far too rapidly.
Operators sat at curved consoles, their fingers flying over seals as they relayed jutsu-based messages from the front lines. Messengers sprinted in and out, boots echoing on the stone floor.
Some operators had tears streaking through the soot on their faces. Others stared at their stations with hollow eyes, hands trembling as fresh reports arrived.
The entire room smelled of fear, sweat, and burning incense meant to calm nerves that refused to settle.
When the heavy doors opened and the Supreme Commander entered, every sound died.
He was an old man — silver hair tied back in a severe topknot, face lined with decades of war and command. But his presence cut through the room like a drawn blade.
His back was straight, his dark eyes sharp and unyielding.
The black-and-crimson robes of his office flowed around him as he walked to the central war table without hurry. Everyone stood at attention, some visibly shaking.
"Everybody, calm down," he said, his voice low but carrying the weight of absolute authority. "And tell me what is happening."
For a heartbeat, no one moved. Then the Head of the Control Center — a middle-aged man named Lieutenant Colonel Sora — stepped forward.
His uniform was disheveled, his face pale and slick with sweat. He bowed deeply, but his voice cracked when he spoke.
"Supreme Commander… the walls have been attacked. Multiple breaches. While we were responding to the explosion at the festival square, enemy forces struck the outer defenses.
There was also an assassination attempt on the Daimyo himself. It failed… but the fighting on the walls is intense. Our forces are scattered. We diverted the majority of our elite units to protect the Daimyo in the inner city. The walls… they were left thinner than they should have been."
A young female operator in the corner let out a soft, broken sound and quickly covered her mouth. Another operator, an older man with graying temples, stared at his map as fresh red markers appeared, representing lost positions.
The Supreme Commander's eyes narrowed. "Who are these people? Do we have any idea who has the guts — and the power — to strike at the capital itself?"
Lieutenant Colonel Sora swallowed hard. His hands clenched into fists at his sides.
"The invaders on the walls… they are wearing Leaf Village headbands."
The room went deathly silent.
No one breathed. The only sound was the faint crackle of a communication array and the distant, muffled roar of battle from outside. Even the chakra lamps seemed to dim.
The Supreme Commander was quiet for a long moment. When he finally spoke, his voice was cold and measured.
"It is a trick. Someone is trying to create imbalance between the capital and the Leaf Village. A false flag to turn us against our own."
Lieutenant Colonel Sora's voice was barely above a whisper, but it carried through the silent room.
"What if it is not, sir?"
The Supreme Commander's gaze hardened. His mind raced with the terrible implications.
If this is real… if the Leaf Village has truly turned its blades against the Daimyo system…
Even if they crushed this invasion, the other great nations would smell blood in the water. The Land of Wind, the Land of Earth, the Land of Lightning — they would not hesitate to strike while the Fire Country was weakened and divided.
The "One Nation, One Village" philosophy — the very foundation this world had been built upon, born from the Leaf Village itself — would be shattered. The entire country could bleed out in the resulting chaos.
He saw it clearly in his mind: burning villages, rivers running red, children orphaned, the dream of unity turned to ash.
"What are they even thinking?" he muttered, more to himself than anyone else. "They created this world. They taught us this ideal. And now they would burn it all down?"
A young operator at the far console suddenly stood up, his face ashen.
"Supreme Commander! Urgent report from the western wall sector! The defenses have been breached! Enemy forces are pouring into the outer districts! They're moving fast!"
The room erupted into controlled panic. Operators began shouting updates. Markers on the maps shifted violently. Someone knocked over a stack of scrolls. A woman in the corner pressed her fist to her mouth to stifle a sob.
The Supreme Commander closed his eyes for a single breath.
When he opened them, the fear was gone. Only iron resolve remained.
"Prepare all remaining forces," he ordered, his voice cutting through the noise like a blade. "I will lead them personally. No son of a bitch is breaching this capital while I still draw breath."
He turned to Lieutenant Colonel Sora.
"Send a direct message to Captain Takeshi — the man responsible for the Daimyo's security. Tell him to gather his most elite guards and evacuate the Daimyo from the capital immediately. Use every hidden route if necessary. The Daimyo must survive."
He strode toward the exit, his robes swirling behind him. At the door he paused and looked back at the room full of terrified men and women.
"Remember your families. Remember why we fight. The Land of Fire will bleed from this day forward… but we will not break."
As the heavy doors closed behind him, the control center fell into a grim, focused silence.
Operators returned to their stations with shaking hands but renewed purpose. Some whispered prayers.
Others cursed the Leaf Village under their breath — the village that had once stood as the beacon of unity, now turning its ninjas against the very system it helped create.
In the heart of the capital, the old lion had gone to war.
And somewhere beyond the burning walls, the true architect of this nightmare was already moving his next piece into place.
