Chapter 20: The "I Hate You" Moment
Scenario:
Your kid screams "I hate you!" during an argument.
It cuts deeper than you want to admit, even though you know they don't mean it.
What would you do?
Do you respond with "Well, I hate you too!" or "Too bad, I'm still your parent!"?
Or do you give them space, then circle back to explain that love isn't conditional—even when you're both being assholes to each other?
I would laugh put a tight hold over my ears and pretend like I heard not a single word that because when your children scream I hate you it's not because they do it's because they hate what's happening they hate the event they don't hate the person contacts get skewed and feelings get hurt like I told my daughter I would rather you hate me temporarily and make sure everyone is safe until you understand that just because it's beyond your comprehension at that moment doesn't mean it isn't part of the bigger plan....
