Chapter 17 - Chapter 16: Nightmare!

The entire interview took a full two hours to complete.

During the interview, Wu Liang took the opportunity to mark all the elderly people visible in the crematorium.

Next, he would have to wait for the dispute between both parties in the case to go to court tomorrow before conducting the remaining interviews.

As they returned to the parking area with the equipment, Li Guoqiang, who was walking ahead, seemed puzzled and said, "Wu Liang, what are those two people doing in the woods across from the car? They seem suspicious, like they're up to no good."

"Huh? Maybe they're just exercising," Wu Liang answered guiltily.

It was only then that he remembered he seemed to have forgotten to let the mist lift their Ghost Wall state.

Lei Zhangming and Wang Dawei had already been circling that tree for a full two hours!

Moreover, they had remained on high alert throughout, and after two hours of tense circling, they were already exhausted.

"Boss Lei... who on earth did this? Was it that kid Wu Liang?" Wang Dawei, already mentally fatigued, tried to calm himself by prying information out of his companion's words.

But Lei Zhangming just shook his head and said, "It's been too long. I've never seen anyone maintain their awakened ability for so long."

Faced with the mist that had shown no change despite their long roam, Lei Zhangming was almost certain it was a supernatural event.

When the Awakened use their abilities, they quickly deplete their physical or spiritual power, much like how a person cannot sprint a marathon at full speed.

If this truly was the duration that an awakened ability could last, lasting a full two hours.

Lei Zhangming couldn't even begin to imagine the extent of the opponent's physical and spiritual prowess!

"Are we going to die here?" Wang Dawei, his legs trembling, regretted coming with the boss today.

"What nonsense are you saying... huh? There's a path ahead?!"

Just as Lei Zhangming was about to scold his subordinate to calm him down, he suddenly noticed a light appearing not far away in the thick mist.

Immediately, the two of them rushed towards the light.

Woosh—

The sudden brilliance of sunlight shone down on them, and the rustling breeze sounded like the most beautiful sound they had ever heard.

When they turned back, the dense mist had disappeared without a trace, and they were only about seven meters away from the big tree.

But the next moment, Lei Zhangming's expression changed slightly.

He saw the TV station car not far away slowly leaving the area, seemingly just finished with the interview.

"I made a move on Wu Liang, the mist descended, and as soon as he left, the mist cleared," Lei Zhangming mumbled, a wave of fear sweeping over him.

This wasn't a supernatural event!

In that time, Wu Liang had definitely not been nearby, yet the mist had been confining them from the crematorium.

There was only one possibility—someone else in the shadows was protecting Wu Liang!

"Two hours of sustained awakened ability, a full two hours!" If the opponent truly had malicious intent, they could have easily killed him!

Now, thinking about Wu Liang's quick reaction earlier, it was possible that someone had been secretly warning him.

Recalling how his head had nearly gotten entangled, Lei Zhangming hurriedly yelled apologies as the TV station vehicle was still within earshot:

"My friend! We didn't know Wu had your protection—I'm just a roughneck from the streets, and I apologize for any offenses! Rest assured, we won't trouble Wu in the future!"

The moment his voice fell, a crack sounded from the tree they had been circling.

Lei Zhangming, like a startled bird, jerked his head around, only to find two branches had simply fallen off the tree.

This at least indicated that the opponent had already left. He sighed with relief, feeling as though he had just narrowly escaped death.

"Tomorrow, you'll come with me to East Pavilion Street again."

Wang Dawei, still confused about why Boss Lei was saying such things, naively asked, "Are we going to bring trouble to Wu Liang directly?"

Upon hearing this, Lei Zhangming, infuriated, raised his hand to smack Wang Dawei's head and scolded, "What nonsense are you talking?! We're going to apologize! Find out how much protection fee we've collected from him over the years and bring the cash to refund him tomorrow!"

"Huh?"

Now it was Wang Dawei's turn to be dumbfounded.

What had just happened? He was used to collecting protection money from Wu Liang's family every month, feeling superior.

Why suddenly bow and scrape to pay it back now?

Was Boss Lei out of his mind?

......

On the other side, Wu Liang returned to the office and organized the interview materials, quickly editing a rough draft on the office computer and sending it to the post-production team for refinement.

The speed of his work efficiency left his colleagues in astonishment, completely unable to tell he was a newcomer who had just joined the office today.

"You've got skills, kid; you're really efficient at work! Just remember, this reckless nature of yours needs tweaking. Next time you go out for interviews, don't push yourself so hard," Li Guoqiang praised, but he didn't forget to remind Wu Liang to be cautious.

Who would have known, Wu Liang's high-efficiency was merely to avoid any overtime work.

Tonight, he needed full energy to deal with the Shouyi Ghost in his dream!

Until it was time to clock out.

His colleagues were originally planning to celebrate the newcomer with a little dinner gathering, but after they turned around, Wu Liang was nowhere to be seen.

"These kids from the 2000s sure run out of work fast!"

Unaware of what his colleagues thought, Wu Liang was already home.

The dinner came with inevitable nagging and cold sarcasm from his aunt's family, who blamed him for yesterday's events, and it's not surprising they weren't pleasant to him.

This time, rather than snapping back, he just finished his meal and went back to his room to rest.

It wasn't until night fell, around twelve, that Wu Liang suddenly opened his eyes wide on the bed, lightly tapping his forehead to retrieve the blue-purple ghostly mask.

"Nightmare, time to work!"

After speaking, he took a deep breath and slowly placed the mask on his face.

The next moment, the mask twisted like a living thing, and where it adhered to the edges of his face, it seemed to merge directly with his face.

At this moment, it was as if the mask had completely replaced his face, sending shivers down one's spine.

Immediately after, Wu Liang's body went limp, and he fell onto the bed, unconscious.

At this time, Wu Liang's consciousness resembled the mythical Chu Yang God or like the Divine Sense in a martial arts novel, feeling as though he were floating in mid-air in the room.

He could even look down to see himself lying on the bed, breathing evenly as if asleep.

Controlling his awareness to drift out the window to hover above the city, Wu Liang saw several points of strange light emanating from distant places.

Those were the nightmare marks he had placed during the day!

"Nightmare, place everyone marked into the same dream, and based on the Shouyi aura on them, pull anyone in the city who has been tainted by this scent but not marked into the dream as well!"

"I'll temporarily handle constructing the dream, you go capture them," Wu Liang coldly instructed the fierce ghost attached to the mask.

After four years of supernatural resurrection, Wu Liang had six fierce ghosts under his control.

Others might find this unbelievable, but to him, this rate of taming was already too slow.

As for the reason—

When taming the Nightmare, he spent an entire year!

This was an exceptionally special fierce ghost.

Its ability range, ignoring distance...
