Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Brotherhood 2

The Brotherhood is an extremely secretive organization.

They have existed long before the outbreak of the Great Disaster Day and have been active in the European Region for a long time. It is a very ancient force that has played a crucial role even in the Wasteland Era. However, the Brotherhood is quite different from other organizations. They seem to have little desire for power, and the Brotherhood is more like a reclusive organization that is only seen active during major events. Pasha does not know much information about the Brotherhood either, as she has not deeply engaged with this organization, but she warned Su Ziyu not to provoke them easily, for the people of the Brotherhood are extremely dangerous.

This man looks dangerous now.

Because very few people would watch a war so casually as if they were watching a grand fireworks display.

Tap.

The man extinguished the cigar on the wall, then turned to glance at Su Ziyu before getting up and returning to his room, seemingly losing interest.

The dense gunfire gradually dwindled.

It seems the outcome has already been decided, and only then did someone emerge from the other side of the wall. Guarded by a team, Su Ziyu seemed to see an old man, though he could not see clearly due to the distance. About half an hour later, gunfire was no longer audible outside, and then some white people covered in blood returned one by one holding guns.

"What's that?"

Su Ziyu heard the heavy footsteps, very heavy, and then he saw a man wearing Exoskeleton Power Armor. The man carried a six-barrel heavy firearm and returned here with the main forces effortlessly. The Exoskeleton Power Armor bore many bullet marks, but none damaged the person inside. Its protective capability seemed quite impressive.

"These people have Exoskeleton Power Armor?" Su Ziyu murmured.

He felt that the depths of Polaris were profound. He had always thought that the Black gangsters were more dominant here, since most of the people on the streets at night were Black, while the Whites mostly lived near this block. But now, it seems that these White gangs have considerable hidden strength, with many weapons of mass destruction in their hands.

The Scavengers did not seem to be greatly affected tonight; they did not join the gang war.

The Freelancer Organization stood by and watched.

Not until the end of the battle did Su Ziyu see their people surface, but there was no sign of Pasha, likely because it was late at night and unnoticed. These White gangs quickly took over the northern territory, with many armed people patrolling outside, and sporadic gunfire could still be heard from time to time.

It's certainly not a time to go out.

But Su Ziyu was also a bit restless, so he lay on the bed feigning sleep, and only gradually dozed off deep into the night.

The next day.

He only heard a little news from others, with the most crucial being the death of old Bob. Some said he died at the hands of those unruly Blacks, while others claimed old Bob died due to White internal conflicts, his death merely serving as a reason for declaring war. The Black-White opposition within Polaris had persisted for a long time, with open and covert struggles for interests and resources frequent in this Wasteland Era. This time, the White gangs achieved a major victory; many Blacks fled overnight, afraid of retribution afterward. Racism was common in this era, and some camps were composed entirely of a single Race.

Pasha remained unseen.

But Su Ziyu was not worried about her safety, as this was the territory of the Freelancers, and the gang powers, no matter how strong, were only dependent on their existence. It was unlikely for this upheaval to affect Pasha personally.

In the morning.

The Indian sellers of grilled rat meat reappeared, though there were notably fewer Blacks on the streets now, with some bloodstains on the ground not yet cleaned, but the bodies had been removed. Su Ziyu encountered the frail young man he saw on his first visit, who was cleaning the streets, though the originally deformed hand was now replaced with a somewhat crudely made mechanical prosthesis. For some reason, the young man seemed slightly afraid upon seeing Su Ziyu and quickly departed.

During the day, many Scavengers planned to go out.

Old Bill's team was prominently among them, a large convoy already assembled outside, with Scavengers loading living supplies. Some were already driving away in advance. Su Ziyu felt as though they were eager to leave and lay low, not knowing what information they might have obtained secretly.

His time here was still too short.

Many things he learned only afterward.

When old Bill was organizing manpower to depart, he seemed to spot Su Ziyu and came over alone. As he brushed past Su Ziyu, he suddenly said softly, "Be careful lately."

"Don't go near the sewers."

After finishing this somewhat cryptic message to Su Ziyu, old Bill smiled and went to greet the chubby man in front, with both draping arms around each other, looking like brothers in deep camaraderie. After lighting a cigarette for each other and smoking for a while, old Bill leisurely returned to the convoy.

Until the convoy left, he neither looked at Su Ziyu again nor said another word to him.

In the afternoon.

A stern-faced middle-aged man returned inside the walls, making his way through multiple checkpoints into a high-rise building, then lightly knocked on the room door.

"Come in." A hoarse male voice sounded from inside.

The elder sat on a chair, stroking his chin, looked up at him, and asked, "Is everything cleared up?"

"Yes. Everything is cleared up." The middle-aged man said in a deep voice.

"Good." The elder gazed indifferently out the window and slowly said, "In the future, control the number of Blacks admitted into the camp. These guys are quite unruly. They cause trouble for us for no reason."

"Have you found the experimental subject?"

The middle-aged man shook his head, saying, "Not yet. Someone saw a shadow dart into the sewage. I have already sent people to check."

"Bring it back as soon as possible." The elder's expression carried a hint of fatigue, he massaged his forehead and said, "If you cannot bring it back, execute it on-site."

"Yes." The middle-aged man stood at attention.

After the departure of the middle-aged man from the room, a painful expression appeared on the elder's face once again, a look of suffering increasingly evident, eventually he even began to tear at his wrinkled, shriveled skin. Breathing heavily, the elder took a vial from the drawer and injected it into the muscularly undulating arm, only then gradually returning to normal.

"Time is running out."

The elder sighed, taking out a special mechanical watch and worn it on his wrist, flashing a red light alarm, with displayed readings that were shocking!

——"Alert! Alert!"

——"The current radiation pollution index is 99.5%!"

——"Please inject the Antiradiation Potion as soon as possible!"

Accompanied by the alarm sound of the mechanical watch, the displayed radiation pollution index gradually worsened, but the rate of worsening was very slow, eventually stagnating at a value of 98.5%, then it ceased to change.

The elder took off the mechanical watch and casually threw it on the ground, murmuring in a deep, hoarse voice, "Time is running out..."
