Chapter 22 - Chapter 19 Cocoon

This scene is extremely funny and comical, with the Demon King Mohe here, like a devout believer, praying to the gods for their blessings. It sounds unbelievable. Everyone knows that the Demon King will not yield to the will of the gods, and the gods cannot kill the Demon King. In a way, the Demon King and the gods are equivalent.

The sunflower blossoms with radiant light, the alcohol lamp ignites automatically, and the circle outlined by Mohe with a carving knife also glows with a silver light.

Everything is so grand and mysterious.

Doro had seen others perform rituals. Although he could not do it himself, he had watched many times, but very few were as skilled as Mohe. If this young girl wanted to disguise herself, no one might be able to see through her identity. She could hide within an organization like the church, where no one would ever think to look.

A vast will descended.

Lisidorwei's expression immediately turned uncomfortable. She didn't like this kind of power. From the moment Mohe created her, she instinctively felt repelled by the power of the gods. She could never be a friend of the gods.

Mohe did not lift her head, continuing to murmur.

Faster and faster, becoming hard to understand.

The items used in the ritual were melting.

However, at this moment, Doro and Lisidorwei didn't know that Mohe was struggling to hold on.

Because the ritual succeeded.

This is incredibly unbelievable. This type of ritual doesn't succeed every time, as she told Doro, the chance of success is less than one in ten thousand, and yet... it succeeded.

This is quite troublesome. In other words, not all the prepared items needed to be fully used before Frodonick would awaken—Mohe couldn't say whether the gods truly acknowledged this "new Hero". But this wasn't the result she wanted. She needed the failure of this ritual, using that "failure" power to turn Frodonick toward the Demon Race.

So this ritual could not succeed.

"I curse the void of destiny."

She added this sentence into her prayer.

In reality, she didn't want to say that. A successful ritual often means the gaze of the gods, and someone like her purposefully causing a ritual to fail might let the high and mighty gods discover her status—though her resurrection could no longer be concealed, but if it were the gods' will, then an enormous machine like the church would spring into action, with their fanaticism, to start searching for her across the world.

This was not beneficial for her hiding her identity.

Yet the Demon King is not someone who would shrink back at such a time. Should the ritual truly succeed? Should she really complete such a ritual as a devotee of the gods? She's the Demon King, she won't allow it.

So she cursed the ritual without hesitation, at that moment, the sunflower withered, the alcohol lamp shattered, and the drawn spring started to twist.

Black goat blood, cat blood, and dragon spirit shards all floated at this moment, shattered and mixed under that twisting force.

The originally sacred and holy ritual suddenly became eerie and chilling. It felt like some unseen entity had entered the room, making Doro and Lisidorwei's skin crawl, looking around warily.

Mohe stretched out her hand, grasping in the void!

As if she caught something!

Sharp wailing echoed in the room, unsettling people's minds!

"Primordial Demon Cocoon! Create Regeneration!"

Like a silkworm spinning its cocoon, black threads immediately wrapped around Frodonick, sewing him tightly. Black power flowed from Mohe's left hand into the interior of this cocoon. On the surface of the black threads, it seemed as though something was being written, something Doro and Lisidorwei could not see or understand.

They only knew, Frodonick was about to resurrect.

Having done all this, Mohe sighed with relief.

"Alright, now you can wait. How long it takes for him to awaken depends on his own satisfaction. This is a great opportunity; the man known as Frodonick usually possesses average talents. This transformation could change his talents; not everyone has such an opportunity."

Mohe waved her hand lightly, and all the abnormalities disappeared.

"I am going to rest for a while. Remember to look after the manor for me. I am preparing to start brewing officially tomorrow. For now, supplies will still come from outside. I have arranged meetings with a few merchants—you could help meet with them in my place, could you?"

That was certainly not a difficult task. On the surface, Lisidorwei and Doro were Mohe's "servants". They were people Mohe paid wages to support.

They did not oppose this fact, as it was a reality.

They just looked at Frodonick with worry.

"Doro, perhaps becoming a member of the Demon Race is not necessarily a bad thing." Lisidorwei saw the complexity in his expression and consoled him, "In some respects, the Demon Race offers certain conveniences. At least the Demon Race is naturally well-suited for combat."

Doro shook his head, "I'm not worried about that... it's just, who exactly was it that finally struck at Frodonick? After he wakes up, what thoughts will he have about the Human Central Empire... I don't know how to make him at ease. If he wants to go to the Empire to seek an explanation after waking up, should I stop him?"

"You probably shouldn't have to do that, should you?"

Lisidorwei thought for a moment before saying, "Frodonick's resurrection already confers upon him your favor. If he doesn't recognize this gratitude, I think you shouldn't concern yourself with him. You've already done your utmost; if he wants to be a Demon and be hunted by the Central Empire, that's his business. You shouldn't feel any guilt towards him; you can't wake someone pretending to be asleep."

"... You may be right, Lisidorwei." Doro knew deep down that Lisidorwei was correct, but then what?

He had already made a pact with the Demon King, and that made it hard for him to feel happy.

To retrieve the Demon King's right hand, to aid in the Demon King's resurrection; he had essentially betrayed humanity—was this truly right?

Moreover, he still had to face that woman... the Saintess Charlette.

The one who once guided him, who once taught him what "love" is, what "correctness" is, and who also—... took the Holy Sword from his hands, made him drink the cursed potion without reservation, could it be she was also deceived?

Doro didn't want to think about it because that person was very smart.

Even if deceived, she would quickly realize it.

Yet she did nothing.

So, she probably knew the truth, and even knowing the truth, still betrayed him.

How should he face that person?

This was the reality he must face in helping the Demon King retrieve his right hand.

Does he have the courage to confront Charlette?
