Six days had passed since the X-Men had arrived to get help from Wanda. It was one of the brotherhood hideouts.
During that time Kakashi was mostly recuperating from his chakra exhaustion to get back to his peak form.
He spent most of the days resting. His body felt heavy. Every movement reminded him how much chakra he had used in the fight against Apocalypse and then in his brief struggle against Jean.
The burns on his skin had healed. He slept long hours. He ate simple meals. Walked slowly around when he could. The other Avengers checked on him often.
Natasha brought him water and light food. Cap offered quiet company. Kakashi appreciated it. He had not felt this weak in a long time. The last time that he felt this weak was when he had first arrived in this new multiverse after the battle with Kaguya.
But he knew rest was the only way to recover fully. He used the time to think. To plan. To prepare for what was coming.
Erik had called the rest of the Brotherhood for backup. All of them were fight ready.
The Brotherhood members arrived quietly over the days. They kept to themselves at first. Some looked at the X-Men with old suspicion.
They knew a big fight was coming. Erik moved among them. He spoke in low voices. Gave orders. Made sure everyone understood the stakes. Not all of them were happy about working with the X-Men. Old rivalries ran deep. But Erik made it clear. This was bigger than old grudges. This was about survival. For all mutants.
While all of that was going on, Kakashi had noticed that Pietro mostly kept to himself. He actively avoided the X-Men when the brotherhood members were near and avoided the brotherhood members when any of the X men were.
Kakashi looked at Pietro who had come to visit him and asked, "You have been quiet since you came here. Anything wrong?"
"Wrong. Nope, you must be mistaken," Pietro countered. "I am as jolly as ever. If there is something wrong with anyone, It must be with you since it is you who fainted… not me."
He said weirdly, hiding his expression.
Kakashi said the next thing nonchalantly as if it was not a big revealation, "If you say so. But you do not need to be weird. Well, if it is the fact that Erik is your father and Wanda your sister which you are trying to hide, you do not have to. I already know."
"How the fuck did you figure it out?" Pietro said shocked instantly
Kakashi gave him an eye smile. "I am a shinobi and we are taught to see through lies… see underneath the underneath. It should not be a surprise. You have been acting weird with Erik. And Erik had looked at you weirdly too with recognition."
"Umm, are not you angry that I hid this fact and I could have helped you with your mission when you had earlier told me about it?" Pietro asked.
"Nope. Family comes first. And you chose not to betray them. I respect that. From where I come from, there is a saying those who betray their comrades our worse than scum."
"Okay," Pietro said with a smile. "Can you please not tell this to the other X-Men?"
"Sure, but I am pretty sure Charles already knows and maybe another few of the X- Men members." Kakashi simply said
Pietro again looked at him in shock. "What?!"
"Oh yeah, It must be because Charles want to start a friendly relationship with brotherhood that he has not said anything. Did you seriously think that you could hide this fact from Charles who is one of the strongest telepaths in this world?" Kakashi asked amused. Pietro looked downfallen that all of his lies had been seen so easily.
After some time, while everyone was preparing for the battle, Kakashi and Charles opened their eyes at the same time.
Kakashi immediately went on battle alert as he sensed that the seal that he had placed on Jean had broken up.
Charles also sensed Jean's presence moving towards them.
Charles said, "To me, my X-Men. Jean is coming." The X-Men gathered up around him.
"Brotherhood mutants, time to fight," Erik said as his Brotherhood gathered around him.
"Avengers Assemble," Kakashi said as the four Avengers that came with him gathered up. Bruce shifted to Hulk with a roar who though did not do anything rash anytime he was around Kakashi.
And then Jean came.
And come she did. Jean was no fire powered mutant but everyone could see the temperature rise considerably just from her coming towards them.
And she had not even arrived yet near them.
And when she arrived, she announced her entrance as the roof over them was detached and thrown around.
Jean had fiery wings around her and her eyes glowed with fire like the last time.
One of the Brotherhood jumped at her in his idiocy immediately and was disintegrated into particles by a single look.
And at this instant, Kakashi knew that her power has grown even strong from the last time they fought. And this time even his Susanoo, the strongest defence of the shinobi world would not be able to protect him from her.
