After escorting the Tesseract to the Triskelion, Kakashi boarded a chopper with Carl Creel, who followed him without resistance, his eyes told me that he would rather be facing three boxers in a handicap match than with Kakashi.
'This guy's a monster, more than me,' Creel thought, his hands cuffed. He could break through them by absorbing the metal but he knew it was pointless after seeing what the man could do. He literally saw him create a small Tsunami after all.
Kakashi sat across from him, flipping through his novel, his posture was relaxed but alert.
Natasha stayed behind at the Triskelion, tasked with guarding the Tesseract until further orders.
Creel broke the silence, his voice tentative. "How did you get your powers?"
Kakashi looked up from his novel, "I was born with it and trained to master it," he said.
Creel's eyes widened, his thoughts surprised. 'Born with it? No experiments?'
"It's not a result of some experimentation?" he asked, his voice tinged with disbelief.
Kakashi didn't bother responding as he returned to his book, ignoring Creel's stare.
Creel's mind was filled with fear, 'If he's not a lab rat, what is he?' He hesitated, then asked, "Do you think I would be able to see daylight again? Would I become the subject of experimentation again?"
Kakashi's eye crinkled slightly, his voice calm. "If I know Director Fury, at most he would take a blood sample from you and put you to work. It depends on your psychological tests and how cooperative you are."
Kakashi noted Creel's tense shoulders. 'Fury's not Orochimaru, but he's no saint either.'
Creel's thoughts eased slightly, but fear lingered. 'Work? It's better than staying locked up in a cage. But Fury…' He shivered, his mind on Kakashi. 'This guy's a monster, and this Fury guy commands him. What kind of man is that?'
The chopper landed at SHIELD's New York Headquarters, and agents escorted Creel to the prison holding Abomination.
"Be cooperative if you want to be freed again," Kakashi said, his tone firm. Creel glanced at the strong metal walls,
'I could absorb this, break out, cause chaos. But that monster…' He nodded, complying.
Kakashi watched, 'Fury's testing him, seeing if he'll try to escape. Smart, but risky.'
He frowned internally. 'Wish he didn't put agents' lives on the line for it.'
Kakashi headed to Fury's office. Fury sat at his desk, "You can't have a normal mission, huh?" he said, his voice edged.
"You just went to some alien planet with gods living there. Brought information of numerous other races in the universe just last week. And now you encounter an enhanced."
Kakashi shrugged, his eyes crinkling. "Bad luck seems to follow me." Internally he added, 'Even across a different reality.'
Kakashi began his report, detailing the ambush and Creel's interrogation. "He mentioned Project Destroyer of Worlds."
Fury's brow raised, his voice scoffing. "That's an ambitious name if I ever saw one. We need to look into it. If this project made more enhanced, we need to know how many, their abilities, everything."
Fury continued, "If Carl escaped, there might be others who escaped too or our still their locked up with powers. We need their goals. Destroyers of Worlds doesn't scream 'save humanity,'" he said with a scoff.
"Does he know more about it?" Fury asked.
"No," Kakashi said. "They convinced him to join by promising he'd become like Captain America. He is a former underground boxer."
"How'd they gain his trust?"
"Showed him a U.S. Military badge, took him to a military facility. He doesn't know which one or where it is located."
"Is Roxxon Corporation involved?"
"I don't think so," Kakashi said. "They found him later. But they're aware of other enhanced individuals if they sent Carl on a mission instead of experimenting on him. Shows they value the Tesseract more than Carl."
Fury's voice was decisive. "I'll have Barton on Roxxon Corporation."
Kakashi asked, "Anything else on Creel?"
"Tell me more about the guy's abilities," Fury said, referring to Carl.
"Once Creel touches a substance, he can absorb it and somehow consciously transform the molecules of his body into that substance. He wouldn't tell me how, but he enjoys the way it feels," Kakashi said.
"What all substances?"
"From what he tells me, any metals, wood, glass including bulletproof glass, concrete, diamond, cloth, clay, marble," Kakashi said.
Fury's thoughts sparked with possibility. 'So any solid substance. If he managed to find that fabled Vibranium? He'd be indestructible. There is a weapons dealer if I am not wrong who claims to have it.' His mind raced, imagining Creel absorbing the rare metal.
'Unstoppable. But no. I am getting ahead of myself.' He shook his head internally.
'He's a product of experiments, but he took a job to kill for cash. No point making him stronger without a way to stop him if he goes on a rampage,' Fury thought
His mind shifted to the Project Avengers.
'That thing is not coming forward anytime soon. It seems that I have to go with Plan B. I think I would have to propose the plan to Hound now. The number of enhanced and the existence of so many aliens. I can't solely rely on Project Avengers. I need a backup for the safety of Earth.' Fury thought before making up his mind as he looked at Kakashi.
