Chapter 13 - Being watched

I didn't know what to say after Lena told me someone was watching us.

"Who?" I finally asked.

She shook her head. "Not sure. Not exactly."

I frowned. "That's not an answer."

"It's the only one I've got," she said quietly. "But trust me — when you start seeing things before they happen, people notice."

I wanted to ask more, but the bell rang.

People started moving around us. The conversation was over for now.

Or so I thought.

The rest of the day passed normally. Too normally.

Like the world was holding its breath.

Then, during lunch, I felt it.

A prickling at the back of my neck. That weird, staticky feeling I usually get right before a flash.

Except this time, there was no decision to make.

No path to choose.

Just… a vision.

I saw myself sitting at my usual table.

Saw Ava two seats down, scrolling through her phone.

Then I saw someone else.

Standing outside the cafeteria window.

Watching us.

The image cut off before I could see their face.

I blinked hard, heart pounding.

Then slowly, I turned toward the window.

And there he was.

A man. Older. Suit too clean for a school setting.

He wasn't a teacher.

He wasn't a parent.

He was just… standing there.

Staring straight at me.

I looked away fast.

Tried to act normal.

But my hands were shaking.

"You okay?" Ava asked.

I nodded, barely. "Yeah. Just…"

I didn't finish.

Because when I looked back, the man was gone.

Like he'd never been there at all.

But I knew better.

Someone was watching.

And they weren't hiding anymore.
