Chapter 17 - Chapter 14 Arming of war with the undead

Once in the town of Elarith, which is the name of the town outside of the Infinite City, the fact that I was given a title by a goddess had finally sunk in.

"Did you know that this town was built on the ancient battlefield where the Age of Monsters ended?" Fizzwick said.

"For the sake of the gods, Fizzwick, stop telling us fun facts that we already know," Nil said.

Fizzwick grumbled for a few minutes. We reported to the Adventurer's Guild and we were met by a face I knew—Garron Vell.

"Garron, congratulations on the promotion to C-rank," I said.

"Thank you, Tern. Same to you. Also, congratulations on the title Road-Builder. But I have been assigned to assist you in going for the Vault of Undeath. The fire has been extinguished by a rare rainstorm that caused a flash flood, but conditions are safe now. Well, from the environment. How safe is any place with monsters? But there has been an army of Shambling Glooms 200 strong, led by Veldic Graveshadow of the Graveshadow clan. Given the haste of our mission, the Guild has provided us with armored war horses."

"Well then, let's get moving," Nil hissed.

"Am I still needed?" Fizzwick asked.

"You would be appreciated. You could make bombs that would hinder the enemy greatly. But it's up to you," Garron said.

"Fine, I will go, but I will need a specialized gnomish horse saddle," Fizzwick said.

"That will take an hour and a half, but it will be done," Garron said.

"I am going to go get some consumable weapons, like throwing daggers, from Orin," I said.

"I could always use more arrows, so I will also go," Nil said.

Orin's shop was nicer than the last time I saw it.

"Orin, you have customers," I yelled.

"I'm coming, hold your horses," Orin said. "What can I do for you?"

"I want something that can be used from a distance on horseback. Throwing knives, that repeating crossbow that you brag about making every time you get drunk, but when you get sober you are never able to find it," I said, smiling at the growing look of affront on Orin's face.

"Well, that is real." He placed a crossbow on the counter. "2,950 cp. It takes Whispercores and will shoot 12 magical bolts. It has one in the crossbow already, and I will give you three more."

"Holy shit, I didn't really believe that you made it. The amount of times that you couldn't find it—I thought that you were just messing with me," I said.

"So, do you want it?" Orin asked.

"Yes." I placed the money on the counter. "Also, I have these iron-twined bones I will sell to you if you want them. At 400 copper."

"Oh, these are nice. I could make some nice swords from these. Since you spent so much money, 400 copper is a fair price." He gave me 400 copper of what I just gave him.

"I will take as many arrows as one standard gold coin will get me," Nil said.

"That will get you 364, but since you are paying in gold, I'll give you 370." Orin placed four bundles of 93 arrows each.

Nil put most of one bundle in a quiver on the side of the horse's saddle. The rest of the bundle she put in the quiver on her back. I had the rest of the arrows in my storage space. We all set off to war with the risen dead.
