[Beta Maverick]
The trembling was abnormal, it felt nothing like it did when I shifted last night or the nights before it. I knew I was shifting abnormally again but why was there so much pain? Like the pain that usually accompanied shifting abnormally wasn't enough.
My lips quivered uncontrollably, and my lower and upper teeth trembled violently, threatening to hit each other with an aggressive snap.
There was a sudden crack as my bone shifted sharply, and I bit down the urge to scream. This was followed by more snaps from every single part of my body as my bones and entire body adjusted and took in a different shape. My skin was tearing and my bones snapping in the most painful way, for my wolf to emerge but unlike other times, I had no single control.
While my bones snapped and my skin was tearing apart, I felt my mind slipping out, away from my reach. Wasn't the herb water supposed to prevent that? I asked in my head, and then I saw it.
The herb water and my meal was on the table, untouched but how could I forget something as important as this?
I was still too satisfied with the blood on Avira's body that I didn't give the cup she brought any much thought. This was too dangerous, I thought as the force of shifting pulled me down until I was standing on all fours. Wolf hair had begun to shoot out of my now uneven skin, feet had been replaced with paws, and fangs were forcing their way out of my mouth. In no time I was fully a wolf, and what was more, the killer instinct had returned with a much stronger force than ever.
The first thing that came to my mind was to go to Avira, and attack her, and if possible, devour her. I could not stop myself, my human was utterly quiet, and didn't suggest a thing to me as I began my attack by turning the furnitures in my bedroom over, after which I left my bedroom for Avira's.
Her door was locked, and impossible to get rid of, and that did not make me feel any good. I desired to kill, I desired blood but the closest to getting my desires granted was Avira, but she had stupidly shut the door against me. With so much anger, I gave the door one powerful push, and when it did not yield any result, I did the only thing I could think of, as directed by my instinct, and went out of the house.
I was completely out of control, snapping at anything I saw on the way. Chairs, trees, anything I could lay my hand on. I began digging, and after digging up holes in every space in the compound, something else caught my attention.
A white rabbit! I stopped digging immediately I saw it, and began chasing. The little thing, sensed the danger in my hot pursuit and ran, like it's whole life depended on it, and I followed head on, chasing and chasing even when it was headed for the Alpha's quarters. I wasn't thinking, I didn't have the ability to think at that moment.
Somehow, I got to the Alpha's quarters, and into the palace, chasing the rabbit without being seen or heard by the pack's warriors. The vicious little beast dived, and landed on the Alpha Demian's throne, and snapping my teeth both in anger, and in readiness to make use of them, I too dived towards the throne, and with a loud thud, it crashed. I searched around the ruined throne underneath my weight for the little beast but it wasn't there.
The sound of soft oinking forced me to look above me, and there it was, the little beast, calling my attention one last time before diving into a hole at the base of the wall. I thought of going with it but even in my state of being completely out of control, I knew better than attempting to go after it. Not even one of my limbs could go into the tiny hole.
I stood there for a long time, and stared down at the hole, waiting desperately for the little beast to come back out or take a peek outside so I could grab it, and squeeze the life out of it. But it did not come out. Maybe it could sense my presence or knew how unsafe it would be for it to come out of the hole.
I moved away after some time, and watched the hole from a distance but still, it did not come out. After waiting for a long time all to no avail, I made my way back to my quarters. There may be something for me there, with which to quench this burning thirst for blood.
But something else caught my attention. A shiny piece of metal, and for a moment I stood in the middle of the throne room, indecisive of what to do.
********
I woke up the next morning in a bed that was too uncomfortable to be my bed. I was wide awake but I was still too tired to start up my day.
I was back to being human and I was holding on to a sharp metal. Too lazy to check it out, and enjoying how cold the metal felt in my hand, I continued to hold on to it. In no time, I was drifting off back to sleep.
I woke up later, not sure how much time had passed, and sat up. While my left hand rubbed my eyes, my right hand was wrapped around the cold metal with rough edges. From outside, I could hear faint voices even though I had no idea who it was or what they were saying.
Then I heard the unmistakable voice of Oliver, the leader of the pack's warriors, and I suddenly became fully awake.
Is the pack at war?
I asked in my head, and stood up. For the first time, I saw the metal which I held, and the event of last night came rushing into my head so quickly that I immediately felt dizzy.
With the speed of lightning, I changed into a regalia that was befitting a Beta, and headed out.
Outside, Avira stood with her back facing the entrance while she faced the warriors. I took in the mess I made for the first time, and sucked in a breath. Last night had gone too far.
"He is... " Avira was saying when I got to her side but I was quick to interrupt her, and stop her from saying what she had wanted to say. Although I did a great job in hiding how I felt, I felt betrayed that Avira would think of telling on me. But she wouldn't go unpunished even though she did not succeed. She wouldn't.
I know just what to do to her, and she wouldn't live to tell the tale when I'm done.
