Zayne stared down at her.
His gaze fell to her throat which bounced as she swallowed thickly. He looked back into her eyes and asked, "Do you want to do this with me?"
Before she could respond, he added,
"You don't have to if you don't want to. Tell me no, and I will stop without a word. I promise you that—"
"You didn't believe me when I said I loved you, did you?" she asked, cutting him off.
It was now Zaynes's turn to swallow hard. How could he? He wasn't so delusional as to think that she could love what he was. She'd dreaded his death and that might have made her believe she loved him.
It's just…
"I love you, Zayne. And I am telling you the truth." She grabbed one of his hands, placing it at her chest. "Can't you hear it? My heart? It's beating this way because I love you. And you have to believe me."
"You love me?" he asked breathlessly.
Evelyn nodded at him. "I love you, Zayne and I mean it."
