Chapter 6 - Sound

The water in the tunnel was ankle-deep, icy cold and foul-smelling. They splashed through it, the sound horribly loud in the confined space. He could hear the pursuers shouting now, their voices muffled but close.

"Who are you?" he asked as they hurried along.

"My name is Lucy," she said. "Who are you?"

"Gabriel. Looks like we have mutual friends."

"They aren't my friends," she stated flatly.

"Mine either, apparently." He risked a glance back. No light yet, but the footsteps were getting closer. They clearly had some idea where they were going. "How far to the fountain?"

"Maybe... five minutes this way? If we don't get lost."

"Lost?" Gabriel stopped abruptly. "I thought you knew this place."

"I know of it," she corrected. "I've been told about it. I didn't expect to be running through it."

He grit his teeth. Great. Relying on instinct and second-hand knowledge. But they had no other option.

"Okay," he said, pushing forward again. "Just stick close. Don't make noise.
