Chapter 60 - The Morning After

Anwyll stood still as Lauren hit him, tears pouring down her face after he delivered the news of her husband's fate.

It was early in the morning and the sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon. A few residents had stepped out of their homes, silently watching the scene unfold, sorrow etched into their expressions.

He let her hit him. It wasn't like her fists inflicted any pain on him. What weighed heavier on him was the guilt that this had happened under his watch.

And it wasn't just the death. It was the disappearance.

In his few years of working for the organization, there had never been a case of a body vanishing before. There was no trail of blood, no drag marks, and no sign of movement. They had spent the rest of the night searching, but there was nothing.

Owen was simply… gone.

Anwyll's mouth felt dry and his arms hung loosely at his sides like dead weight.
