Chapter 2 - Rain

"Excuse me for interrupting your family reunion but I'm running a bit late" Maya snapped. "Maya show some respect will you!" George reprimanded angrily. " Chole daddy has to go but I promise I won't take long". he said to the little girl in his arms. Chole on the other hand stared unblinkly at Maya, she instantly became jealous of Maya's beauty. Her mom told her about Maya her dad's other daughter but her mom assured her that she was her daddy's only princess. She turned her gaze back to George and smiled at him " Okay daddy". George set her down and kissed the little boy on the forehead. He tugged at Maya's hand " Let's go". Selina smiled sweetly at Maya " Bye bye Maya". Maya rolled her eyes " Witch" she muttered. George drove Maya to her grandpa's house. Walter was so happy to have his grand daughter with him. " Look how beautifully you've grown". Walter said taking Maya in his embrace. Maya happily smiled at her grandpa " Is nice to see you again grandpa".! " Well dad, Maya I will get going". George turned to Maya " Honey won't you give daddy a hug mmh"?. Not sparing her father a glance she ascended the stairs." Grandpa I will go unpack my things".She hurriedly ran off. Walter looked at his son and sighed " You really disappoint me son!, abandoning your own daughter because of a woman"? George frowned at his father's words " Dad that woman you are referring to is the mother of my children who also are your grandchildren".he defended. Walter was fuming mad " Well dont expect your daughter to forgive you after this". " Dad am not having this conversation with you anymore", looking at the stairs he continued " and am sure Maya is gonna be just fine." After saying athat he walked out. Walter turned and saw Maya Standing on the stairs. " How much did you hear"? he asked. She blinked " Basically everything". Sighing he gestured for Maya to come down. He patted the back of her hand gently " Maya your father h... Walter started but Maya cut him off " Grandpa don't defend him". " I will be in my room" she walked away.

Every birthday Maya expected her father to come or even call and wish her but he never did. It was only her grandpa and the maids who celebrated her birthday for her. Walter will always persuade George to come but he always say two words " Am busy". Maya learned to live without a mother and a father. When she was 18 she found a clue to where her mother might be, she didn't believe it at first so she dug deeper into it. When she found out that her mother was in County A living in the Miller family she decided to go there and meet her. Walter was against the idea " Maya I don't think is a good idea for you to go there all alone" he sighed helplessly. " Grandpa I have to so please don't stop me"she insisted. Walter knew that he won't be able to change his granddaughter's mind so he reluctantly agreed " Alright honey, I know I can't stop you anyway"!. Maya smiled and hugged her grandpa " Don't be sad grandpa, I won't leave now" she said making Walter a bit puzzled. " I will leave once I turn twenty so let's have fun before I leave so that you won't miss me too much" she added. Walter sighed in relive.

The day Maya waited for finally arrived. She will be going to Country A today to look for her mom. " Grandpa am leaving" she said holding Walter's hand with tears in her eyes. Walter was so sad to watch her leave but he knew it was worth it. Patting her head gently he said " Maya you're an adult now and I hope that you'll find love and be happy always" he smiled bitterly. Maya hugged him tightly as if her life depended on it. Her grandpa was the only family she had over the years and she loved him dearly. " I'm gonna miss you so much" she sobbed loudly. Walter gently pushed her to wipe her tears " Go now my dear girl and don't worry about this old man" he said with a chuckle. Walter led Maya outside " Take care of yourself grandpa and please don't skip your meals". Maya pouted and reminded him. Walter rolled his eyes playfully " I've Magret with me so don't worry" he reassured her with a smile. Magret was one of Walter's trusted employee. She even took care of Maya when she arrived. Maya gave Walter one last hug and whispered " I love you grandpa". " I love you too dear". Walter watched as his beloved granddaughter's car went away. He had missed her already.

Inside the car Maya was fidgeting, she was really nervous. Finally able to meet her mother once again after all these years was like a dream come true for her. She sighed heavily " Mom I'm finally going to meet you".

Eleanor cupped her daughter's face in her hands " Maya you look so beautiful and you've grown a lot"she chuckled. " You don't look bad yourself mom" Maya complimented and they both burst out laughing.

From a distance a man was watching them with a smile on his face. " They look so happy" he said smiling faintly. Beside him stood his driver who was also smiling looking at the mother and daughter duo." But boss we have to get them out of the rain or else they might fall sick". he exclaimed worriedly.

The man's eyes widened when he realized that they were still in the rain. " Oh right! Edward go get me two umbrellas, come on hurry" he urged. The man named Edward quickly rushed off. Edward came back with three umbrellas in his hands. He sheepishly scratched his cheeks when he saw the confused look on his boss's face. " One is for me to carry the suitcases" he explained. They both quickly dash towards Eleanor and Maya who were still hugging each other. Eleanor heard footsteps approaching and turned around. " Bryan!"she happily waved. Bryan frowned looking at the happy woman who didn't even realize she was wet. " Eleanor you both are soaking wet, come one let's get you inside". He sheilded Eleanor under his umbrella and gave the other one to Maya. Maya smiled appreciatively at his gesture. Bryan smiled back and led them inside the house.
