I thought to myself.
Why did Amira kidnap me?
Obviously, to show me how weak I am.
To remind me that no matter how far I've come, she can still pull the strings.
I can't do this.
I ruined everything.
I didn't get anything useful from watching Mariah. She resigned. Quietly. Cleanly. I can't arrest her based on suspicion. No evidence. No leverage.
They're smarter. More powerful. Always five steps ahead.
What is it that they all want from my birthright?
Why won't they just leave me with what's mine?
I took a shaky breath and sat on the edge of the tub.
I'll have Anna represent me at the office. I can't be there. Not like this.
I'm mentally down. Unstable. Unfit.
And I might be leaving the company entirely—depending on whatever they're preparing to hit me with. A lawsuit. A public scandal. An audit. Who knows?
