Stella's POV
I arched a brow, crossing my arms. "And what would that be?"
His lips curved into something between a smirk and a warning. "I want you to go into Lucian's territory. Spy on him. Find out his next plan."
I let the words sink in, then tilted my head.
"And what do I get in return, Lorenzo? I don't work for free."
"Anything," he said without hesitation.
That word—anything—hung heavy in the air. He thought I was his loyal pawn. He thought wrong.
The next morning Lorenzo packaged some instruments for me, oblivious fact that I am allies with Lucian. Oh, sweet foolery.
When I arrived at the gate, Lorenzo was already expecting me. He didn't let me stay for a minute, He pressed the bag into my hands at the front doors of the estate, not even asking me to step inside.
"Use them wisely," he said curtly.
I gave him a practiced smile. "It will be a pleasure to fulfill the mission."
"Good luck," he said, already turning away.
