Chapter 141
As I stood on the deserted school premises, the fading sunlight casting long shadows behind me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of desperation wash over me. Where was hyun min? I had been searching for what felt like an eternity, my feet aching from pacing back and forth across the empty hallways. My phone was dead, after I had sent him countless texts, but he hadn't responded.
Just as I was about to give up hope, I heard the sound of footsteps behind me. I turned, and my heart skipped a beat as I saw him standing there, a gentle smile on his face. "I am right behind you," he said, his eyes sparkling with warmth.
I raised an eyebrow, a mixture of relief and annoyance swirling inside me. "You silly boy," I teased, shaking my head.
He chuckled, his smile deepening. "School's finally over, and we're on the cusp of college life," he said, his voice filled with excitement.
As we walked outside, the warm sun on our skin, a man in black approached us. "Someone wants to see you," he said, his tone formal.
I recognized the man, and a sense of unease settled in the pit of my stomach. He seemed familiar, but I couldn't quite place him. Hyun min tried to intervene, but I stopped him with a gentle gesture. "I'll handle this," I said, my voice firm.
I followed the man to a sleek black car, where I found his former mother sitting in the backseat. She offered a half-hearted apology for her past behavior, but her words seemed insincere. "Although I never like you" she said, her voice laced with manipulation. "I just wanted what's best for him."
I looked her straight in the eye, my voice firm but respectful. "Ma'am, with all due respect, you're not his real mother. His real mother is kind and loving, and I'm sure she wants us to be together. Your opinion isn't needed, thank you."
I got out of the car, feeling a sense of satisfaction despite her stunned expression.
As I walked away from the car, the sound of its engine fading into the distance, I made my way to Hyun Min. His eyes met mine, filled with curiosity and concern. "Was that my mother?" he asked, his voice low and gentle.
"Your former mother you mean, she just wanted to apologize," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.
As we walked, the warm sunlight casting long shadows behind us, we spotted Hyun Min's real mother standing by a car, a bouquet of flowers in her hand. I nudged Hyun Min, my eyes locked on his. "Your mother is here," I said, my voice soft.
Hyun Min's eyes widened slightly as we approached his mother. She handed him the flowers, her smile warm and loving. Hyun Min looked at me uncertainly, but I encouraged him to take the flowers, my eyes urging him to accept her gesture.
The woman congratulated Hyun Min on graduating from high school, her voice filled with pride and warmth. Then, she turned to me, her eyes sparkling with kindness. "Oh, Sarah, how are you?" I smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her. "I'm fine, ma'am," I replied, my voice sincere.
Just then, my phone rang, shrill and insistent. I pulled it out of my pocket and saw my mom's name flashing on the screen. I picked up, and her voice filled my ear. "Where are you, Sarah?" she asked, her tone laced with a hint of worry.
I smiled, feeling a surge of love and excitement. "Oh, mom, you're here already?" I replied, my voice filled with joy.
My mom's voice was reassuring. "Yes, I've been looking for you for a while now." I excused myself from Hyun Min and went to meet my mother, my heart racing with anticipation.
As I saw her, I was taken aback by her beauty. She was wearing a long, bone-straight wig and an elegant gown that fell to the ground, its fabric shimmering in the sunlight. She looked expensive and unique, and I couldn't help but feel proud to call her my mother.
She opened her arms, and I walked into them, feeling her warmth and love. "Congratulations on graduating from high school, my baby," she said, her voice filled with pride and love. I smiled, feeling happy and loved, my heart full of joy and gratitude.
Mom told me she had initially planned to send Mister Kim to pick me up, but she decided to come herself instead, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of spending time with her. "Okay, let's go and get my bags," I said, but then I asked for a minute to bid farewell to Hyun Min and his mother.
As I rushed over to where they were standing, I was struck by the presence of a girl with stunning, long, bone-straightened hair and a chic outfit that exuded elegance. She caught my eye and flashed a radiant smile, removing her nose mask to reveal a bright and cheerful face. Hyun Min pointed at me and said, "That's her," and the girl's eyes sparkled with delight. "You're absolutely adorable!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine enthusiasm.
I looked at Hyun Min, confused, and he discreetly signaled that she was his sister, the one he talked to on the phone that day. I was taken aback by her breathtaking beauty and her warm, effervescent personality. "You're a vision of loveliness," I said, and she laughed, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Oh, stop it, you're making me blush!" she said, her voice filled with laughter.
She then enveloped me in a warm hug, saying, "I promised myself I'd give you a hug when we met, and I'm a woman of my word!" I hugged her back, noticing that she smelled wonderfully of perfume. She looked at Hyun Min and said, "He's still my brother, no matter what happens," her voice filled with affection. Hyun Min just shrugged, a hint of a smile on his face.
I told Nella, which was her name, that I wanted to go get my bags, I wanted to to excuse myself and she gallantly offered to help me. Hyun Min protested playfully, saying it wasn't fair that he had to carry his own bags with no help, but Nella teased him, saying, "You're a guy, you're perfectly capable of carrying your own bags. You're not going to break under the weight clothes, are you?" Hyun Min's mother chuckled at the exchange, and Nella's eyes sparkled with mirth.
Nella then took my hand and said, "Come on, let's go get your bags. I'll help you carry them." I smiled, feeling grateful for her kindness and warmth, and followed her, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation.
