Chapter 10: Spotted by Conan?
The next day, outside the Mouri Detective Agency.
A yellow Beetle pulled up to the curb.
The door opened, and a small boy in a suit and bow tie stepped out.
"Shinichi, you really aren't willing to give up, are you!"
Professor Agasa pulled the handbrake and parked the car.
"Worth a shot!"
"Whatever else you say about him, Mouri-ojisan is still a detective—he's bound to have more leads than you."
Conan said it out loud, but in his head, Ran's face kept drifting into his mind.
If he could live at the Mouris' place, that would basically mean being with Ran…
"Heh heh heh!"
Conan couldn't help letting out a laugh that sounded embarrassingly lecherous.
"That car is…"
Professor Agasa stepped out and shut the door behind him.
His eyes, however, were immediately drawn to a red sports car parked by the road.
"A Ferrari 812—and the latest model from last year at that."
"A 6.5L GTS—bought outright, that'd run at least 100,000,000 yen!"
Conan circled the car for a look, rattling off facts like someone who knew exactly what they were talking about.
"That's amazing, Shinichi—you actually know about this stuff!"
Professor Agasa said, genuinely impressed.
"It's nothing—I'll be 18 next year, so I can get my license then."
"So I've been browsing cars online lately!"
"But this one is seriously cool!"
Conan walked up to the Ferrari's window and leaned in for a look at the interior.
"Whoosh!"
In an instant, Conan's face went bright red and he stumbled back a few steps.
"What's wrong?"
Professor Agasa asked, puzzled.
"Professor!"
Conan waved him over and gestured for him to lean in close.
Then he whispered, "There's a couple inside that Ferrari who are…"
"This, this…"
"Ahem, ahem!"
Professor Agasa's face went red too as he looked away in silence.
"Still, money really is something!"
"Once I get my license, I'm making Dad buy me a Ferrari."
"At the very least… at the very least a GTR!"
Conan clenched his little fists and made a silent vow.
"Let's go, let's go—stop bothering them!"
Professor Agasa grabbed Conan and hurried him up the stairs.
He was a 52-year-old middle-aged bachelor—the last thing he needed to see was something that rated a parental advisory warning.
Just as the two of them started up the stairs, the Ferrari's door slowly swung open.
A pretty young girl stepped out, her expression flustered.
Shorts and long legs, an oversized hoodie.
Soft long hair, slightly messed up.
A fresh, clean face with a faint flush.
"Makoto, this is literally my front door—what if Dad sees?"
Ran stamped her foot in frustration and quickly pulled out her compact to touch up her makeup in the mirror.
Her lipstick was smudged.
"Then I'll just come clean to your father."
Makoto straightened his collar in the car window's reflection.
"Come clean?"
"That would mean…"
Ran panicked instantly.
"Ran!"
"My feelings for you are serious—I'm pursuing this with marriage in mind."
"So I'm perfectly willing to say that openly, right to your father's face."
Makoto gripped her shoulders, looked her in the eyes, completely earnest.
"M-m-m… marriage?"
"That, that…"
"Marriage is still way too early—way too early!"
In an instant!
Ran's whole face went red, practically steaming.
Her eyes darted around, not knowing where to look.
"But!"
"Makoto, I understand how you feel."
She took a deep breath and gently took his hand.
Her face was full of a happy smile.
Compared to that guy who couldn't even bring himself to say he liked her, the man standing before her now was clearly someone she could lean on.
'Makoto has already decided on marriage!'

Mouri Detective Agency.
Conan sat on the sofa, grinning to himself.
Mouri Kogoro lounged with his legs crossed, brow deeply furrowed.
Professor Agasa scratched his bald head with an awkward laugh.
"Dad, I'm home."
"Professor? And this is…"
Ran pushed open the door and stopped in her tracks.
'That kid!'
A little blue suit, a red bow tie, black-framed glasses—looking every bit like a miniature grown-up.
And yet Ran felt a strange, inexplicable sense of familiarity when she looked at him.
"Ran-chan, long time no see!"
Professor Agasa called out in greeting.
"Ran!"
Conan blurted the name out before he could stop himself, his voice charged with excitement.
"Ran?"
Ran blinked.
"Hey, kid—call her 'neesan.' Who gave you the right to call her 'Ran'?"
"Where are your manners? What did your parents teach you?"
Mouri Kogoro grumbled irritably.
"Shinichi!"
Professor Agasa shot him a quick look.
"Ran… Ran-neechan!"
Conan scratched his head with an awkward grin.
"Hmph—a distant relative all right. Exactly the same."
"If that's the case, then in twenty, thirty years…"
Mouri Kogoro looked at Conan, then at Professor Agasa.
The image that surfaced in his mind—of that little brat all grown up, then going successfully bald—made a ridiculously wide grin spread across his face.
"Dad, what on earth is going on?"
Ran asked.
"Well, it's actually…"
"Whoosh!"
Mouri Kogoro was just about to speak when his eyes snapped to someone else entirely.
The man standing behind his daughter!
"Who are you?"
"How come I've never seen you before?"
The bleary-eyed drunk suddenly turned dead serious, eyes locked on him.
