But things were only about to get worse.
While she was doing everything she could to keep the train from speeding toward the broken bridge some psycho had just blown up...
A flash of green streaked past her.
It was that monster again—it had circled back.
It landed on the roof and charged straight toward the front of the train—toward Gwen, who was desperately trying to stop it.
But the broken bridge was now just a few miles away.
If she couldn't stop the train in time, everyone onboard...
"No! I have to hold on!"
Even as her spider-sense screamed at her to let go, Gwen dug deep and resisted with everything she had.
The green monster quickly reached the front of the train again.
It climbed on top of the car, flipped itself upside down, and stuck its head down over the edge.
Its bloodshot eyes and deranged, twisted face locked eyes with Gwen.
It looked just like a scene out of a movie.
Only this time, it wasn't a romantic upside-down Spider-Man kiss with a pretty girl.
This was more like a twisted Beauty and the Beast moment—pure chaos and intensity.
ROAR!
The monster let out a furious roar, its breath so foul Gwen had to turn her head away in disgust.
And then—just like before—her spider-sense exploded again, sharper and more urgent than ever.
"No!"
Fighting through the overload of danger signals and excruciating pain, Gwen clenched the webs tighter.
She had completely given up on escaping—everything now was about saving the lives of everyone on this train.
The enraged monster raised its thick, powerful arm—ready to strike.
With claws sharp enough to tear through metal like paper, the monster slowly reached for Gwen's body. Like a cat toying with its prey, it gently dragged its claws across her abdomen.
Riiip…
Her tight suit and skin split open together, leaving three long, gaping wounds across her stomach. Blood instantly poured out in streams of red.
"Ugh…"
Gritting her teeth through the searing pain, Gwen waited for the right moment—when the monster was distracted, smug, and off-guard.
Using the strength of her webs, she suddenly kicked out with both legs, slamming her feet right into the monster's face and sending it flying.
The sheer force launched the beast dozens of meters away, where it crashed hard beside the railroad tracks.
ROAR!
But the blow didn't actually hurt it much. If anything, it only pissed it off.
With a furious roar, the monster leapt back to its feet and charged at Gwen, swinging its massive fists, hellbent on smashing her into the ground.
"Sorry about this…"
Even with the monster's giant fist just inches from smashing down on her, Gwen didn't let go of her webs. She didn't try to dodge.
Instead, she gripped tighter—and closed her eyes.
Thup-thup-thup… RATATATATA!
Suddenly, the sound of helicopter rotors and machine gun fire filled the air. Gwen's eyes snapped open in surprise.
Above the train, a police chopper had appeared out of nowhere, its gun blazing bright flames. Bullets rained down like a storm, slamming into the monster's body nonstop.
"Don't worry, Spider-Woman—we've got your back this time!"
A familiar voice called out, one Gwen instantly recognized.
The NYPD had finally arrived—right when she needed them most.
"Captain Stacy, our guns aren't doing anything!"
The helicopter hovered just a few dozen meters above the train as the officers kept firing. One of them turned to George Stacy with frustration.
Their bullets were hitting the creature, sure—but its thick, armored skin was barely scratched.
"Damn, the thing's pissed—it's coming for us now!"
Instead of taking it down, they had just drawn its attention.
"That's the point! Pull back! Lead it away from the train!" George barked, eyes locked and voice steady.
"Look out, Captain!"
Just as the helicopter began to turn, trying to lure the creature away—
—a broken metal pole suddenly flew through the air like a javelin, heading straight for the cockpit.
Thankfully, one quick-thinking officer dove and tackled George out of the way. If he hadn't, the pole would've impaled George on the spot.
But even though it missed the crew, the jagged metal still stabbed through the helicopter's body and sliced into the rotor system.
CRUNCH!
With its blades jammed, the chopper instantly lost lift—and started plummeting.
"No!" Gwen cried out, helpless to save the falling helicopter. She couldn't even try—not while the train full of passengers still needed her.
But she knew—she knew—her father was in that helicopter.
The pain of almost losing him, the rage and desperation—it all exploded inside her, unlocking a strength she didn't know she had.
With a cry, she pulled hard—so hard that the speeding train actually began to slow, visibly, even against all odds.
Inside the crashing helicopter, everyone felt death looming over them. Panic and despair filled their hearts. They wanted to fight it—but what could they do?
George Stacy, surrounded by terrified, frozen officers, steadied his gaze.
ROAR!
The monster, clearly thrilled with its hit, let out another deafening howl.
But then its cruel, bloodthirsty eyes locked on Gwen once again. With a powerful leap, it lunged straight at her.
"You damn monster!"
This time, Gwen didn't shut her eyes. She stared right back with fire in hers, ready to face it head-on.
BANG!
Just as the monster's fist was about to slam into her, a green blur shot in from the side, tackling the beast. The two of them tumbled away in a tangled brawl.
Under the faint, pale moonlight, Gwen caught a glimpse of the new arrival—it looked like… a giant lizard?
"Lizard-Man?"
There was no time to think. Gwen forced her pain into power and, after her webs snapped, immediately fired off several new strands.
The strain nearly ripped her apart. Her arms felt like they were about to dislocate, and her bleeding stomach screamed in agony.
But even through all of it—she refused to give up.
Her unbreakable will turned into raw strength. Somehow, unbelievably, the speeding train continued to slow.
"Aaah!"
In the end, just as the train was about to rush off the tracks and into the destroyed bridge, it finally screeched to a stop—thanks to Gwen's almost crazed shouting.
"We're safe! Thank god!"
"Spider-Man, you did it!"
Cheers erupted from the crowd of passengers. They were celebrating Spider-Man… but mostly, they were celebrating the fact that they were still alive.
"Dad…"
But Gwen couldn't hear the cheers. She didn't care about the thanks. She was using every last bit of strength just to stay conscious.
With one shaky movement, she shot out a web and swung toward the crash site where the helicopter had gone down.
When she got there, she found nothing but wreckage and flames. The helicopter was gone—just a burning heap.
The pain hit her like a punch to the gut. Her heart sank.
"You did it, Spider-Man! You saved us all!"
A cop nearby called out, eyes full of admiration.
"But… I couldn't save your chief…"
Gwen couldn't even bring herself to smile at the praise.
She had saved everyone—but not her father.
"Our chief? He's not dead. He saved all of us. It's just…"
The officer seemed confused, like he didn't know how to explain.
"What? He's alive? He's really not dead?"
Gwen felt like she was dreaming. Relief flooded through her—but only for a second.
"But… he kinda turned into a monster."
That one sentence made Gwen's stomach twist again. She slowly turned around…
And saw the Lizard-Man battling another creature.
That Lizard-Man—it was her dad.
