The Going Merry cut through the East Blue's waters with ease, her sails full and her crew gathered on deck around me as I consulted the Sparrow Compass.
'Of course, they'd all be interested when treasure is involved,' I thought, watching the disk pointing at a direction and the distance counter going down slowly.
"We're close," I announced, closing the compass with a satisfying click.
Luffy's eyes immediately lit up like a kid on Christmas morning.
"Really?! Where is it? Is it buried? Is there a map? Are there traps?!" He bounced around the deck, practically vibrating with excitement.
Usopp was almost as bad, rubbing his hands together eagerly. "I can't wait to see what kind of treasure we're going to find this time! I bet it's something amazing!"
The rest of the crew, however, looked considerably more skeptical. Nami crossed her arms and gave me that look—the one that said she was about to poke holes in whatever plan I had.
"Hold on," she said, raising a hand. "While I would never say no to money, do you actually have a map or some kind of clue about this treasure? Because from what I know, treasure hunting usually takes a long time."
'Here we go. Time for the practical questions.' I leaned against the mast, adopting what I hoped was a casual pose. "That's usually the case, yes. But not for me."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Roronoa raised an eyebrow.
'Might as well explain how this whole thing works. They're going to find out eventually anyway.'
"Treasure hunting," I began, "is generally split into two parts. The first part—which most people consider boring—involves chasing down rumors, investigating historical records, interviewing locals, cross-referencing maritime charts, and essentially playing detective for months, until you can narrow down a potential location in a relatively small search area."
I paused, letting that sink in before continuing. "The second part, which is usually considered the exciting bit, is where the treasure hunter uses their 'Specialty' to search that small area and actually find the treasure."
Sanji lit a cigarette, blowing smoke into the sea breeze. "Specialty?"
"It's an inside reference in the trade," I explained. "Refers to a treasure hunter's special skill that helps them locate treasure. Could be a Devil Fruit power, a tamed animal, geological skills, tracking abilities—whatever gives you an edge in actually finding the goods."
Usopp's eyes widened with understanding. "Oh, I get it! Well, you're smart, so you must be really good at the investigation part. But what's your specialty then? Is it some magical skill?"
'How do I explain this without sounding completely insane?'
"Close. My specialty," I said carefully, "is simply locating."
The silence that followed was broken by Nami's confused voice. "What does that mean, exactly?"
'Well, here goes nothing.'
"In simple words, as long as there's a treasure somewhere, I can know exactly where it is any time I want."
More silence. Then Sanji's cigarette nearly fell out of his mouth. "Are you saying you're like a walking treasure map for any treasure?"
Roronoa's eyes widened as he understood my earlier words. "Is that why you said it was different for you?"
"Pretty much, yes."
Usopp's jaw dropped as he processed the implications. "Wait, wait, wait! Does that mean you know where the One Piece is?!"
'If only it were that simple.'
I couldn't help but snort at that.
"No," I said firmly. "There's no way something like that would be easy to find."
'Even with the Compass, some things are beyond the reach of simple treasure hunting.'
"Anyway, we've reached our destination," I announced, looking around at the seemingly empty ocean surrounding us.
Everyone followed my gaze, scanning the horizon.
"I don't see anything." Nami frowned.
"That's normal," I replied casually, "because the treasure is underwater."
'And there it is. The moment they realize this isn't going to be a simple dig-and-grab operation.'
"Underwater?!" Usopp yelped. "You mean we have to dive for it?"
"Most likely pretty deep, too," I confirmed.
The crew exchanged glances, and I could practically see the gears turning in their heads. Finally, Roronoa spoke up.
"So, who's going down with you?"
Luffy's hand shot up immediately. "Me! I want to see the treasure!"
The collective "NO" from everyone else was so instantaneous and emphatic that it actually echoed across the water.
"You can't swim, idiot," Roronoa said with the patience of someone explaining basic physics to a particularly dense child.
After a brief discussion that mostly involved shooting down Luffy's increasingly ridiculous suggestions for how he could somehow participate in underwater treasure hunting, we settled on Roronoa and Sanji accompanying me.
"How are we going to breathe if it's deep?" Sanji asked the practical question I'd been waiting for.
I reached into my Dimensional Bag and pulled out what looked like a pink, coral-like object. "We'll use these."
"…this is?" Nami asked, remembering what it was.
"Bubbly Coral, is what it called," I explained, holding up the device. "A device from Fishman Island, it can produce an air bubble made of resin."
To demonstrate, I pressed the button-like protrusion on top.
BLOOP!
A perfect bubble of translucent resin formed at the bottom, floating gently in the air.
"Whoa!" Luffy exclaimed, reaching out to poke it.
Nami's eyes widened with recognition. "Wait, isn't that the thing from Arlong Park, the one that was in the underwater bunker..."
"That's right," I confirmed. "I took some of it."
I created another bubble, this time around my head like a helmet. The resin formed a perfect seal around my neck, giving me a clear view while providing an air pocket to breathe from.
"It lasts about five minutes above water," I explained through the bubble, my voice slightly muffled but still clear. "But underwater, it can keep you breathing for about thirty minutes. If anyone feels their air getting thin, just make another bubble."
I handed a Bubbly Coral to both Roronoa and Sanji. They each tried it, creating head bubbles of their own.
"How convenient," Roronoa commented, his voice carrying an odd echo through the resin.
"This is pretty amazing," Sanji agreed, moving his head around to test the mobility.
Of course, Luffy immediately started pouting. "Hachiman, Hachiman! I want one too! Give me one too!"
Usopp smacked him on the head. "Idiot, how are you going to use it if you can't swim?!"
"I'll make a really big bubble around my whole body!" Luffy declared with the kind of enthusiasm that usually led to disaster.
"That still won't work. How are you going to swim?" Usopp sighed.
'Actually...' I looked at Luffy thoughtfully. 'That's not entirely wrong. With the right modifications...'
"Hold on," I said. "I have an idea. Luffy, stand still for a moment."
'This is either going to work brilliantly or end with Luffy drowning in a bubble. Given my luck, probably both. And given his luck, it would probably work somehow.'
I took out another Bubbly Coral and activated it, but instead of letting it form naturally, I used my Hamon to guide the resin as it expanded.
BZZT! CRACKLE!
The golden energy crackled through my fingers as I shaped the bubble around Luffy's entire body, forming it like a second skin over his clothes and limbs.
The Hamon reinforced the resin, making it more durable while maintaining its flexibility.
For his head, I created a separate, inflated bubble that would give him plenty of air. Then I pulled out a wooden collar-like thing—it is a dog collar, but he doesn't need to know—fitting it around his neck to separate the body suit from the head bubble.
"There," I said, stepping back to admire my handiwork. "You should be able to dive with us like this. But remember, no Gomu Gomu stuff, or the suit would be ripped apart."
Luffy looked down at himself, encased in the translucent resin like some kind of deep-sea explorer. Then he started jumping around excitedly, testing the suit's flexibility.
"This is so cool! I look like a fish!" he shouted, his voice clear through the head bubble.
"More like a very excited sea cucumber," Sanji muttered, but there was amazement in his voice.
The rest of the crew watched in amazement as Luffy bounced around the deck in his improvised diving suit.
"Is it really okay like this?" Nami asked, looking concerned.
"It should be fine," I replied. "We'll test it in the surface water first before diving deep."
'Famous last words. But honestly, what's the worst that could happen?'
Don't answer that.
"Alright, let's go!"
With that declaration, I dove off the side of the Going Merry, hitting the water with a satisfying splash!
Luffy followed immediately, hitting the water like an enthusiastic cannonball.
Roronoa and Sanji dove in after us with considerably more grace, their bubbles functioning perfectly as they sliced through the water.
"This is sure handy," Sanji's voice came through the water, slightly muffled but perfectly audible. "We can actually talk to each other down here."
"And we can breathe continuously too," Roronoa agreed, experimenting with speaking while moving through the water. "Like this, we can dive deep."
'So far, so good. Nobody's drowning yet.'
The bubbles not only provided air but also allowed us to speak to each other clearly—a feature I'd discovered by accident during my first underwater trial.
Luffy was swimming around us like the world's most energetic dolphin, his suit allowing him to move through the water with surprising agility.
"This is amazing!" he shouted, doing a little flip. "I haven't been able to swim like this since I was little!"
Roronoa and Sanji watched him with a mixture of amazement and concern as our captain performed increasingly elaborate underwater acrobatics.
'He's like a kid who just discovered he can fly. This is either going to be an incredible game changer or end up in a disaster.'
"That's great," I called out. "But we need to go now. We're here for treasure, remember?"
"Right! Treasure!" Luffy agreed enthusiastically, immediately diving deeper while shouting "Treasure! Treasure!" repeatedly.
'And there he goes. Well, at least he's heading in the right direction.'
The three of us followed our overly excited Captain as we descended into the blue depths of the East Blue. As we went deeper, the layout of what lay beneath began to reveal itself.
'Well, I'll be damned.'
A town.
What we found was a complete town, sunken beneath the waves and resting next to a small submerged hill.
Between the town and the hill stood what appeared to be a palace, its architectural details still visible despite years of underwater erosion.
The sight was simultaneously amazing and deeply melancholy. What had once been a thriving community was now a silent monument to whatever catastrophe had befallen it.
"Incredible," Sanji breathed. "An entire city, just sitting here on the ocean floor."
"It's beautiful," Luffy said, though his usual exuberance was tempered by something approaching reverence. "But also, kind of sad."
'They're not wrong. Something is haunting about places like this.'
"What could have happened here?" Roronoa wondered, his voice carrying clearly through the water.
"Void Century," I said simply.
The three of them turned to me with confused expressions.
"There are ruins like these all over the East Blue," I continued. "Probably all over the world too. When I've brought relics and monuments from places like this to archaeologists, they usually date them back to the Void Century."
"The what century?" Luffy asked, tilting his head.
I sighed, preparing for another impromptu history lesson.
'I feel more like a teacher in this crew than a treasure hunter.'
"The Void Century is a period between nine hundred and eight hundred years ago," I explained. "We have no historical records from that time. No one knows what happened."
"Huh? Why not?" Luffy pressed.
"That's the question, isn't it? We have no idea. Whatever happened during that century, it was something big enough to erase all traces of itself from history."
'And create ruins like this one. Places where entire civilizations just... disappeared.'
"Anyway," I said, pushing aside the philosophical implications, "let's go. We're here for gold, not ancient mysteries."
I consulted the compass and started swimming toward the town, following its directions. But when I looked back, Luffy had veered off course and was heading straight for the palace.
"Oi!" I called. "Where are you going?"
"I want to check out the palace!" he shouted back without stopping. "There's got to be something big in there!"
Roronoa, Sanji, and I exchanged helpless looks.
"We should follow him," Sanji said with resignation. "He might do something stupid on his own."
'He's going to do something stupid regardless. But at least if we're there, we can try to minimize the damage.'
With no other choice, we followed our wayward captain to the sunken palace. The structure was even more impressive up close, with elaborate carvings and architectural details that spoke of significant wealth and power.
'Whoever lived here was definitely important. Royalty, most likely.'
We spent time exploring the various rooms and corridors, but most of what we found was disappointingly mundane.
Many areas were completely destroyed by the years of being submerged underwater, while others were blocked by coral growth or underwater vegetation.
The rooms we could access were either empty or filled with rusted, broken trinkets that had no value beyond historical curiosity.
'Which, knowing Luffy, means he's going to collect every single piece of junk he can get his hands on.'
Sure enough, our captain was gathering up every corroded fork and broken plate he could find, treating them like precious artifacts.
'At least someone's enjoying themselves.'
After what felt like hours of fruitless searching, I decided we'd wasted enough time.
"There's nothing here," I announced. "We need to move on."
Roronoa and Sanji nodded in agreement, but Luffy was busy struggling with what appeared to be a large stone cabinet that had fallen face-first onto the floor.
"Hold on," he grunted, trying to flip the heavy object. "I want to see what's inside this first!"
"Luffy, we need to go," I called, but he was completely focused on his task.
'Of all the stubborn...' "Fine. But make it quick."
With a tremendous effort and a lot of grunting, Luffy managed to flip the cabinet upright. Unfortunately, his success also caused a section of the wall beside it to shift ominously, threatening to collapse and bury us all under tons of stone and coral.
CRACK! RUMBLE!
"You idiot!" Sanji yelled, grabbing Luffy and pulling him away from the unstable wall.
As the cloud and debris settled, Roronoa and I moved closer to examine what Luffy had uncovered. What we found made us both pause.
"Hey, that's not a cabinet," Roronoa observed.
"No," I agreed. "It's a shrine."
The revelation caught Luffy and Sanji's attention immediately. The object was indeed a small shrine, its surface covered in intricate carvings and symbols that had been protected from the worst of the underwater decay by being face down for so long.
Luffy, his earlier scolding forgotten, carefully opened the shrine's doors.
What we found inside left all four of us speechless.
'What the…'
The interior of the shrine was impossibly clean, as if it had been sealed away from the ravages of time and saltwater. But what really caught our attention was the centerpiece: a statue roughly the size of a basketball, carved entirely from what appeared to be a big pearl.
The statue depicted a mermaid of breathtaking beauty sitting gracefully on the back of a whale.
In one delicate hand, she held a golden trident that caught what little light filtered down from the surface above, in the other, she held what looked like a golden harp, and on her head sat an elegant crown, making her look regal and noble.
'That's... actually incredible. The craftsmanship alone must have taken years.'
Every detail was perfect, from the flowing hair to the scales on her tail. Even though it was just a statue, there was something almost lifelike about the mermaid's expression.
We all stared in stunned silence for several moments.
"Whoa," Luffy finally breathed, his eyes wide with wonder. "It's beautiful."
Sanji's reaction was considerably more dramatic. His eyes had turned into literal hearts, and he was practically vibrating with excitement.
"Ah, she's... she's absolutely gorgeous! Look at that face! Those curves! The way the light plays off the pearl! It's like she's alive! Such a beauty, such a grace…"
'And there he goes. I swear, that man's reaction to anything remotely feminine is both impressive and deeply concerning.'
Roronoa and I exchanged a look that clearly communicated our shared discomfort with Sanji's enthusiasm.
"What is this thing anyway?" Roronoa wondered aloud, studying the intricate base. "And who is this supposed to be?"
"There's writing all over the base," Luffy observed, lifting the statue carefully. "Hachiman, can you read it?"
I shook my head. "I'm a treasure hunter, not an archaeologist. I have no idea who this mermaid is supposed to represent."
Though the trident does make me think of Poseidon. But in my world, Poseidon was depicted as a bearded man, not a beautiful mermaid. And in this world, Poseidon is supposed to be an ancient weapon, not a deity. It could be symbolic of something else entirely.
'Not that it matters right now. We can figure out the historical significance later.'
"We need to move," I announced, cutting through Sanji's continued rhapsodizing about the statue's artistic merits. "We've spent too much time here already, and we still have what we actually came for."
The others nodded, though Luffy carefully secured the pearl statue before we left the palace.
'At least he's being careful with it. That thing is probably worth more than five times our ship.'
Following the compass's guidance, we made our way to the sunken town proper. Swimming through the empty streets and between abandoned houses was surreal, even for someone like me who'd done it many times before.
'It never gets less weird. There's something fundamentally wrong about seeing windows and doors underwater.'
"Here we are,"
The compass led us to a moderately large house that had clearly belonged to a wealthy family—merchants, if I had to guess, based on the architectural style and location.
"This is it?" Sanji asked, looking skeptical. "Kind of anticlimactic after that huge palace."
"Most of these ruins are like that," I replied, using my Hamon Pendulum. "Even if the town sank suddenly, the people probably survived unless there was a major disaster. They would have taken their valuables with them."
I let more Hamon flow to the pendulum, which was sending out pulses of Hamon energy to scan the building's interior structure.
Ping! Ping! Ping!
"And even if they didn't take everything," I continued as the energy waves mapped out hidden spaces and structural weaknesses, "they'd come back for it later. Plus, thieves and treasure hunters have had centuries to pick these places clean."
"So why are we here then?" Roronoa asked.
"Because occasionally, something gets hidden well enough that everyone else misses it."
The pendulum's feedback painted a clear picture in my mind of the house's layout, including a hidden compartment in what had once been a storage room.
'Bingo.'
"Found it," I announced.
Luffy didn't wait for further explanation, immediately swimming into the house with his usual enthusiasm. The rest of us followed, navigating through rooms filled with the detritus of a life interrupted centuries ago.
I led them to the storage room, where the pendulum had detected the hidden space beneath what appeared to be a simple wooden floor.
"Here," I said, pointing to a specific section of flooring. "There's a hidden mechanism, but it's probably corroded beyond use after all this time."
"No problem," Roronoa said, drawing two of his swords.
I pulled out the Sword of Gryffindor, its ruby-encrusted hilt gleaming even in the filtered underwater light. "On three?"
SLASH! SLICE!
Our combined cuts made quick work of the ancient mechanism, revealing a hidden compartment beneath the floor. When we cleared away the debris and looked inside, all four of us paused in amazement.
'Now that's more like it.'
The hidden space was filled with gold trinkets, jewelry, and coins that had been protected from the worst of the water damage by their sealed environment. At the center sat a heavy chest that promised even greater treasures within.
"Incredible," Roronoa muttered.
"Look at all that gold!" Luffy exclaimed, his excitement causing bubbles to stream from his air supply.
"I can't believe we actually found it just like this," Sanji said, staring at the hoard with wide eyes.
'Sometimes I still can't believe how well the Compass works. It's almost unfair to other treasure hunters.'
As expected of a cheat item.
I pulled two shovels from my dimensional bag and handed them to Roronoa and Sanji.
"There's mud accumulated at the bottom, and some of the gold has gotten buried. Dig it out while Luffy and I handle the chest and larger pieces out of the building."
We worked efficiently, chatting quietly as we excavated the treasure. It was oddly peaceful work, despite being performed at the bottom of the ocean in the ruins of a lost civilization.
"So," Luffy asked as we carefully extracted a particularly ornate golden goblet from the cache, "how much do you think all this is worth?"
"Hard to say exactly," I replied, examining the craftsmanship on various pieces. "The gold alone is worth a considerable amount, but some of these pieces are clearly artworks, adding to their historical value. They might be worth significantly more to the right collectors."
Assuming we can find those collectors, not just the exchange center.
"How do we even sell stuff like this?" Sanji wondered aloud as he unearthed another handful of gold coins.
"Very normally, at any bank or an exchange center," Roronoa answered. "They don't ask many questions."
"That easily?" Sanji wondered.
Roronoa continued, "Yeah, many of the bounty hunters go after the treasures of the pirates themselves rather than their bounty, as it is more profitable, with the bounty serving as an extra. Everyone knows it is pirates' gold, but it is still gold, so they shut up."
'Welcome to the Great Pirate Era.'
Soon, we had a respectable pile of gold and valuables sitting outside the building. Most of it was tarnished and covered in marine growth, but, like Roronoa said, gold was gold.
"How are we getting all this to the surface?" Roronoa asked, wiping imaginary sweat from his brow.
I smiled and pulled out a Bubbly Coral. "I have an idea."
'Time for the fun part.'
I activated the device and expanded the bubble around our entire collection—the gold, Luffy's collection of random 'artifacts', and the pearl mermaid statue.
WHOOSH!
The resin bubble formed a perfect sphere around everything and immediately began rising toward the surface, carrying our treasure with it.
"That's so convenient," Sanji observed, watching our hard work float away.
"Your turn," I said, gesturing for them to create their own floating bubbles.
We each made ascending bubbles that carried us toward the surface, following our treasure up through the blue depths of the East Blue.
As we neared the surface, I could see our bubbles beginning to lose integrity. The resin lasted longer underwater, but the changing pressure as we ascended was causing stress fractures to appear.
CRACK! POP!
Luffy's bubble burst first, leaving him at the mercy of the sea and his Devil Fruit curse. Sanji immediately grabbed him, preventing our captain from sinking back to the bottom like a stone.
BZZT! CRACKLE!
I quickly reinforced the treasure bubble with Hamon energy, while Roronoa helped me guide it to the surface, where it could float safely.
SPLASH!
"Rope!" I called as we broke the surface near the Going Merry.
"Here!"
Usopp was ready with a line connected to a pulley system. I caught the rope and secured it around our floating treasure chest, creating a harness that would distribute the weight evenly.
"Pull!" I shouted.
"It's lighter than I expected!" Nami called back as she and Usopp worked the pulley.
POP!
Soon our treasure was safely on deck, and we climbed aboard after it. I punctured the bubble with a controlled burst of Hamon, causing it to dissolve and reveal our haul to the entire crew.
Gold trinkets, coins, jewelry, and artifacts spilled across the deck of the Going Merry, glittering in the afternoon sun. The pearl mermaid statue sat prominently among the treasures, its beauty even more striking in natural light.
'Not a bad day's work, if I do say so myself.'
"Amazing," Usopp breathed, running his fingers through a pile of gold coins.
"Ohh, oooohh, hhhooohhho…"
Nami's eyes began to gleam with the unmistakable light of avarice as a strange voice was coming out of her mouth.
"O-Oi! Are-Are you okay?"
"Nami-san…"
Even the usually composed members of the crew looked suitably uncomfortable.
'Looks like her brain apparently short-circuited.'
What happened next was so far outside my experience of normal human behavior that I'm still not entirely sure I didn't hallucinate it.
Nami stood motionless for several seconds, staring at the treasure with an expression of pure, undiluted greed. Then she began to vibrate.
Actually vibrate. Like a tuning fork.
Before I could process what was happening, she walked directly up to me with a strange, predatory grace that triggered every survival instinct I possessed. Without warning, she grabbed my arm and pressed against it with disturbing enthusiasm.
"Marry me," she said in a voice that was equal parts seductive and terrifying.
"…"
"…"
"…"
"…"
"…"
'...What…..'
The entire deck fell silent except for the sound of my brain attempting to restart itself. This was so far outside my understanding of normal human interaction that I couldn't even formulate a proper response.
"…What…?" I managed to croak out, trying to process what had just happened.
"Marry Me!!!" she repeated with even more passion, her eyes literally displaying golden Berri symbols in heart shapes in a way that should have been physically and biologically impossible.
'This is not happening. This cannot be happening.'
"Oi! Get off me!" I protested, trying to extract my arm from her grip, but she was clinging to it with surprising strength.
The rest of the crew had recovered from their shock and were providing their own commentary on the situation.
"She's completely lost it," Usopp added, though he sounded more entertained than concerned.
"More like she finally met her bane," Zoro observed with mild amusement.
"Buhahahahahahah!!!!" Luffy was just laughing his head off, apparently finding the entire situation hilarious.
But Sanji's reaction was the most dramatic. He had gone completely colorless, standing frozen in place with an expression of absolute heartbreak.
Crack! I could literally hear the sound of his heart cracking.
Then, with the kind of emotional whiplash that seemed to be standard for this crew, he burst back to life with literal flames of passion surrounding him.
"DAMN SHITIMAN! GET AWAY FROM NAMI-SAN!" he roared, pointing an accusing finger at me.
'Oh, for the love of—'
"Tell That To Her, Not Me!" I shouted back, my usual composure finally cracking under the sheer absurdity of the situation.
I turned back to Nami, trying to maintain some semblance of dignity while she continued to cling to my arm like a love-struck barnacle. "And You, Could You At Least Try To Hide Your Motives A Little When Making Proposals Like This?"
Her response was to press even closer, her eyes still displaying impossible Berri symbols as she explained her reasoning to herself as much as to me.
"But~ If I Marry Him, All Of This Gold, All Of This Money!!! KYAAAAAA~! Marry Me Already!!!" She said that all while jumping up and down and screaming like some kind of deranged fangirl.
'She's actually explaining her thought process out loud. I don't know whether to be impressed or terrified by her complete lack of subtlety.'
Sanji collapsed to the deck, pounding his fists against the planks while crying dramatically.
"I can, I can do that too, Nami-san!"
Then he sprang back to his feet, pointing at me again with renewed fury. "WOAAAAAHH!!!!! YOU'VE PUT SOME KIND OF SPELL ON HER, HAVEN'T YOU, YOU SORCERER?!"
"I'LL GLADLY ACCEPT ANY HELP YOU WANT TO OFFER WITH THAT!!!" I shot back, still trying unsuccessfully to pry Nami off my arm.
'This is my life now. This is what I've chosen.'
The entire situation was so absurd, so completely divorced from any normal human interaction, that I couldn't even maintain proper embarrassment.
It was like being trapped in some kind of fever dream written by someone who had heard about human emotions but had never actually experienced them.
The chaos continued until literally every other member of the crew had to physically intervene to separate Nami from my arm. It took all of them working together—All. Of. Them— and even then, it was a struggle.
'I've fought sea monsters, battled notorious pirates, and survived in many situations that would have killed me many times that I can count. And I'm being defeated by a girl with an unhealthy obsession with money.'
Once we finally managed to restore some semblance of order to the deck, we had a brief discussion about what to do with our haul. The practical question was what to keep and what to sell.
"We're definitely keeping the statue," Luffy declared, clutching the pearl mermaid protectively.
'Of course we are.'
Sanji nodded enthusiastically, still staring at the statue with disturbing intensity. "She's far too beautiful to sell. We must protect her!"
He was still giving me a stink eye from time to time.
"Fine," I agreed, partly because I was genuinely curious about the statue's historical significance and partly because arguing with Luffy about treasure was pointless.
"But everything else goes to the market."
'We need the money. Ships—Even pirate ships—have expenses.'
With our diving adventure concluded and our treasure secured, we finally set course for Loguetown. The town where the Pirate King had been born and died—our last stop before entering the Grand Line.
'Which, if I remember from the Manga, will not be easy either, as there should be trouble there…'
I have a few ideas about what to do and semblances of solutions.
'But…I will most likely need her help...' I thought as I looked at Nami, who is now looking at the gold, and then at me with looks that made me remember the previous fiasco.
'…Well, maybe it is better to think of other ideas…'
…
