Chapter 158 - CHAPTER 158

c158: Want? Want To Keep It?

Snorlax stared at Chen Xiaoxiao with wide, eager eyes, its entire round body leaning forward in anticipation.

Chen Xiaoxiao chuckled softly at its expression. This time, instead of a single piece, she directly redeemed an entire pack of Advanced Normal-type energy cubes from the system. Waving the bag lightly in front of Snorlax, she teased, "Look here. A whole pack, just for you."

Snorlax's eyes lit up instantly, like twin spotlights. Its jaw slackened, saliva pooling at the corners of its mouth.

"Come on, Snorlax. But you have to remember no more napping in the river, alright? If you block the water source, the Pokémon downstream won't have anything to drink. Can you imagine if you had no water to drink yourself?" Chen Xiaoxiao's tone shifted to serious, trying to drive the point home.

Snorlax tilted its head, clearly mulling over the thought. After imagining itself parched and unable to gulp water, it suddenly nodded with surprising seriousness, its stubby arms crossing as if making a vow.

"Good! That's the spirit." Chen Xiaoxiao smiled in relief, handing the pack over.

Snorlax accepted the cubes with joy, tearing the bag open immediately. It popped one into its mouth and chewed happily, then surprisingly plucked out another cube and offered it toward Chen Xiaoxiao.

Chen Xiaoxiao blinked, her heart warming. "Heh, thanks, but no need. You eat it. I won't take that." She shook her head, smiling.

For a moment, Snorlax looked confused why wouldn't she take such delicious food? But the thought didn't linger long. It happily shoved the offered cube into its own mouth and continued devouring with gusto, its entire face glowing with satisfaction.

Chen Xiaoxiao couldn't help smiling knowingly. Despite its lazy and gluttonous reputation, Snorlax really was cute. That docile temperament, combined with its happy expressions, made it oddly lovable.

Still, she didn't consider capturing it. Snorlax's strength was undeniable, it was nearly at the quasi-Elite peak, and its species base stats were among the highest of any Pokémon. But its extreme laziness was the problem.

"If I actually trained it, I'd spend more time dragging it out of bed than battling," Chen Xiaoxiao muttered to herself. "Morning training alone would be a nightmare. And if its habits rub off on Ampharos or Gardevoir… that would be a disaster. Three years to learn good habits, three days to learn bad ones!"

Shaking her head at the thought, she finally waved. "Okay, Snorlax, we're leaving now. Take care."

She confirmed her next destination with the Pokédex and headed off. Snorlax, still munching happily, didn't seem to hear her farewell.

"Let's go, Gardevoir," Chen Xiaoxiao said as she walked toward Guangdong City.

Hours later, while battling groups of wild Pokémon, she suddenly noticed something strange.

"Ampharos, Thunder Punch!"

"Ampharos, Thunderbolt!"

"Ampharos, Dragon Pulse!"

The battles were almost routine swarms of Beedrill and aggressive Fearow ambushed them, but Ampharos swiftly dealt with each. The practice gave Ampharos plenty of combat experience, and Chen Xiaoxiao quietly noted the points gained. Good, that covers the cost of those Snorlax cubes.

As the sun reached its zenith, Gardevoir finally spoke in her telepathic voice. "(Xiaoxiao, it's noon. Let's rest and eat.)"

"Alright, let's head back into the Pokémon space for a break." Chen Xiaoxiao nodded, taking out the Poké Balls for Ampharos and Gardevoir.

But then Gardevoir suddenly froze, her red eyes narrowing. "(Wait Snorlax… it's following us.)"

Chen Xiaoxiao nearly dropped the Poké Balls. "What? Snorlax? Following us?!"

She glanced back. They had walked for several hours over ten kilometers, at least. Yet sure enough, behind a cluster of trees, a huge round figure shifted clumsily.

Snorlax quickly ducked behind a tree, only its belly, arms, and legs sticking out on either side.

"Pfft!" Chen Xiaoxiao burst out laughing. "Are you kidding me? Do you think hiding your face means I won't recognize a giant like you?"

"Snorlax, what are you doing hiding there?" she called out, grinning.

The massive Pokémon froze, trembling slightly.

"Snorlax!" she repeated, her voice playful but firm.

Realizing he had been discovered, Snorlax reluctantly peeked his head out, scratching it sheepishly. He pressed one paw against the tree, looking utterly embarrassed.

"Come here," Chen Xiaoxiao beckoned, waving her hand.

Snorlax blinked, then pointed at himself questioningly.

"Yes, you," Chen Xiaoxiao confirmed with a nod.

Looking hesitant, Snorlax finally lumbered forward shyly, scratching his head as he stopped in front of her.

"Don't tell me you finished that whole pack already?" Chen Xiaoxiao eyed him suspiciously. She knew energy cubes weren't ordinary food just one could replace a full meal. And she had given him an entire pack. Even with Snorlax's appetite, that should have been plenty.

Snorlax shook his head quickly and revealed the half-full bag of cubes, as if to prove his innocence.

"Then why are you following us?" Chen Xiaoxiao asked, frowning in confusion.

Snorlax scratched his head again, clearly unsure himself. He glanced down at the cubes in his hand, then back up at Chen Xiaoxiao.

Chen Xiaoxiao sighed. "Don't tell me… you're treating me like a meal ticket now?"

Gardevoir's telepathic tone was equally exasperated. "(That seems to be the case…)"

Chen Xiaoxiao stared, then pointed at the cube. "Want?"

Snorlax nodded instantly.

"Want always?" she pressed again, narrowing her eyes.

This time, Snorlax nodded firmly, his usually lazy expression replaced by surprising seriousness.
