Knock. Knock.
"Serein Caddle, you are under summons from the CBAA on suspicion of concealing your identity. Open the door and cooperate with the investigation."
The voice outside carried both urgency and authority.
Serein pressed her palm against Kai's chest, forcing apart their entwined mouths. Back in the cramped space of the car he had not noticed it, but now, beneath the stark ceiling light of her apartment, it became clear.
A small mole graced the left side of her chin, just beneath the lush curve of her lips. A temptation. A forbidden invitation, sweet as sin.
Kai knew it was off-limits, knew she was only using him as a shield against the GIRD agents waiting beyond the door. Yet his body betrayed him, his breath dragging, his neck stretching forward as if unwilling to leave behind the intoxicating softness of her lips.
But Serein had already turned her head sharply toward the door, ignoring the hunger sparking inside him.
"Open it."
