I could basically see Luther's ears and tail drop at the sight by the way his shoulders plunged down in disappointment. I would have been more than eager to laugh it off and tease him about it if I weren't so— nervous.

Despite putting a shock collar around Luther's neck connected to a leash, I had a bad feeling about this walk entirely. Every particle of me insisted that nothing good would come out of it.
After all, it was all but too early for Luther to see the grand vision of what the world I've built for him looked like. It needed time- five or ten years before it stabilized naturally.
Natural selection is bound to take a while. Now all he was about to see was the crumbs of what once was our society dipped in blood and panic as the weak died and the strong lived.
