Seven days passed in the blink of an eye...
Caleb stood beneath the giant Pikachu statue when a mechanical voice rang in his ears:
[Welcome, player, to the large-scale Transformation and Substitution Instance, Open World!]
Everything around him began to change rapidly. The crowd disappeared, replaced by a thick, dark void.
"What was going on?" Caleb looked around in confusion.
Suddenly, a mirror materialized out of thin air. Reflected in the mirror was a handsome little black-haired boy with delicate features.
The boy had bright, dark eyes and appeared to be about three or four years old. His expression was slightly dazed, making him look adorably cool and cute.
Caleb froze for a moment before suddenly realizing something... He abruptly lowered his head, the little boy in the mirror mirrored his movement.
"Damn it! Why did I get turned into a little kid?!" Caleb stared at his tiny hands and stubby legs, his entire worldview shaken.
At that moment, the voice finally spoke again:
[Do you want to live an ordinary and nameless life, or do you wish to leave your mark in history and become a legend of the Pokémon world?]
[Freely choose your identity: Trainer, Breeder, or an ordinary passerby. This is an open and thrilling world!]
[Objective: Live in this Scenario for three years in your current form! Final rewards will be distributed based on your exploration progress!]
[Special Instance, No penalty for failure! Note: Death in this Instance means true death!]
[Random spawn location generating now...]
[Countdown!]
<3!>
<2!>
<1!>
As soon as the countdown ended, Caleb found himself in a desolate snowfield...
A cold wind blew past, turning his little face red from the chill.
The bleak gray sky was steadily shedding snowflakes, and as far as the eye could see, there was nothing but endless white.
"Damn it!" Caleb's teeth chattered as he shivered and pulled out Dragonite's Poké Ball from his Inventory.
He was only wearing a thin Eevee hoodie, which was hardly enough to keep him warm. If he didn't get out of here soon, he'd freeze to death.
A flash of white light later, Dragonite emerged from its Poké Ball. When it saw its trainer now shrunken into a tiny version of himself, its chubby face twisted in shock.
"Get me out of here first!" With that, Caleb stretched out his little arms, trying to climb onto Dragonite's back.
Dragonite blinked its large lake-green eyes, tilting its head curiously as it watched its tiny trainer struggle with the awkward movement.
'What an adorable human child!' Dragonite was utterly charmed.
It lowered its wings helpfully to make it easier for Caleb to pull himself up.
Noticing this, Caleb's face darkened. He let go of Dragonite's wing and frowned at its expression. "...What are you thinking?"
Only then did Dragonite snap out of it, scratching its head sheepishly before scooping Caleb up in its claws and taking off into the sky, shielding him from the snow with its body.
It was so cold, that every breath Caleb took formed a visible puff of white mist in the air. Thankfully, Dragonite had plenty of fat to keep it warm, preventing Caleb from freezing solid.
Dragonite flew at top speed, and soon, a large city blanketed in snow appeared ahead.
Caleb glanced down and pointed at a red-roofed building among the structures below, "Over there!"
"Wuu!"
Dragonite nodded and swiftly descended toward the Pokémon Center...
....
The weather in Snowpoint City had been unusually harsh lately...
The relentless snowfall which continued nonstop for twenty-four hours a day had blocked all roads into the city. No one could enter, and no one could leave. The entire city lay silent beneath the snow.
It was so cold, that Trainers couldn't even be bothered to step outside, let alone engage in Pokémon battles.
Nurse Joy hadn't seen a single Trainer come to heal their Pokémon in nearly three days.
She warmed herself a cup of Moomoo Milk, wrapped herself in a small blanket, and curled up comfortably on the sofa to watch the latest episode of 'Guess the League Champion'.
This show aired every year before the Sinnoh League Tournament began.
The hosts would analyze the information collected from the participating Trainers and speculate on who would take the championship throne.
On screen, one host was enthusiastically discussing each Trainer's Pokémon and strengths:
<...Shinji's Infernape has performed exceptionally well! His offensive style is fierce and flawless, leaving no openings for his opponents. I think his chances of winning this year are very high!..>
Another host disagreed:
<...That's hard to say. Have you forgotten about that girl with the Garchomp? Just from the battle footage, you can sense her overwhelming presence. Her Garchomp is just as strong as that Infernape! I think she's this year's dark horse...>
Just then, Nurse Joy heard a knock at the door.
She turned down the TV volume, slipped on her shoes, and went to answer it.
As the door opened, a gust of icy wind carrying snowflakes rushed inside.
Looking down, Nurse Joy saw a little boy standing outside, his face red from the cold, shivering uncontrollably.
The boy couldn't be more than four years old. He had big eyes and was incredibly cute... handsome, even. Despite being frozen half to death, he wasn't crying. Instead, he wore a stubborn, cool expression.
Seeing the poor child in such a state, Nurse Joy's heart ached. She quickly scooped him up, carried him inside, and shut the door, blocking out the wind and snow.
As the cold gradually faded and warmth enveloped him, Caleb couldn't help but let out a quiet sigh of relief...
'Nurse Joy, could you please put me down?' Caleb protested with his eyes.
Even though his body was that of a three or four-year-old, mentally, he was still a full-grown adult in his twenties.
Being held like this by a mature woman was nothing short of humiliating.
Nurse Joy didn't notice his gaze. She set him down on the sofa before hurrying to fetch a warm towel and a cup of hot milk.
"Warm yourself up first!" She held the milk up to Caleb, helping him drink it.
Caleb: "..."
His hands were too frozen to hold the cup properly, so he had no choice but to resign himself to the embarrassment and sip the milk while Nurse Joy held it for him.
Watching the adorable little boy obediently drinking, Nurse Joy couldn't resist pinching his cheek, "Little one, where are your parents? How did you end up here all alone?"
Caleb paused mid-sip...
Given the circumstances, it was safe to assume he didn't have parents in this Instance.
After a moment of thought, he replied, "My mom and dad are dead..."
Realizing his pronunciation was slurred like a child's, Caleb immediately clamped his mouth shut.
'Damn it! So not only is my body tiny, but my speech is affected too?!'
His expression turned utterly defeated as he continued drinking the milk in despair...
