"Where were you last night?" Gu Manqing asked.

Her tone was calm, but a subtle sharpness lurked beneath.

Lin Wan'er gripped her coffee cup tightly, trying to appear natural.

"Worked late. I stopped by Shen's place to discuss a project."

Manqing smiled. "You knew him before, didn't you? You don't seem like someone meeting him for the first time."

The air froze.

Wan'er didn't know how to respond.

She couldn't tell Manqing that the man who haunted her nights was her deepest past—and the one she could never touch again.

But in Manqing's eyes, a flicker of suspicion had already surfaced.
