Chapter 1 - The Suburbs

It was 12 AM, the usual time that larger Shadows would go hunting for sleeping prey. In the Dark Alleyway Of Doom, outsiders were known to call it, nearly everyone was hyper aware of their surroundings, and always on the watch for possible threats.

Tonight, Rogue was no exception. He had to keep his title in the top 10's after all. Everyone who went down even a single rank was ridiculed and mocked, and it wasn't a good place to live for 'weaklings' and pacifists, since they believed that the larger and stronger you become, the more respected and powerful you are.

He hid underneath a dumpster, waiting for a smaller Shadow to pass by, so he could kill and eat it. To his luck, he found one lurking around, and he waited for it to come closer, holding a shadowy cage in his hands. Always the impatient one, he lunged at it, trapping it in the cage.

"Spare me please!" It wailed, banging at the cage bars. "Or what, hm? Give me one reason to." Rogue replied haughtily, looking at his new found meal. The shadow went silent, as if saying he had nothing to offer him. "That's right. You're lucky I'm not hungry. Enjoy the next 8 hours of your life." He said, smirking at it as it was banging against the bars desperately. "Oh be quiet, will you? A human might discover us." He said, tapping on the cage as he walked home and settled the cage on his table.

He sat on his bed, reading the newspapers, reading one specific article that caught his attention. "Someone put a bounty on my head? Who could it be? I'm a pretty respected man in my town, aren't I?" He thought. Either way, he couldn't live here, right? Not anymore. He packed his things quickly, and put them into a bag and a suitcase.

He didn't have time to eat his caught prey, so he unlocked the cage and held the shadow by his collar. "What's your name, kid?" Rogue asked. "Kamau.." The small shadow replied, trembling with fear. "You're free to go." He said, bending down to lightly drop him onto the floor.

Soon enough he was running out of his house and on his way home.
