Chapter 10 - Episode10:"The Hidden Target"

Smoke rises from the edge of the mansion. Rubble litters the ground. Maya is crouched behind the couch, hands over her ears. She's shaking.

Two guards stand at the door, tense, weapons in hand. The first guard's voice was tense as he reported, She's still inside…

We've been ordered to stay put, Guard Two muttered, his eyes scanning the room.

Door creaks open. Caleb steps in, shadows under his eyes, expression tense.

He sees Maya on the floor. She doesn't look up.

Her face froze, eyes wide and filled with fear, and not a single sound escaped her

Caleb kneels down beside her, gently tried to comfort her. Maya… it's over. You're safe now. Maya doesn't move. Her eyes are still fixed on the floor, breathing shallow. Caleb looks at her quietly. He expected she might be scared — but not this broken.

He slowly reaches out, his hand hovering for a moment before resting gently on her shoulder.

Maya flinches slightly at his touch but doesn't pull away.

Caleb leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a low murmur. Are you hurt? Maya slowly shakes her head, still not speaking.

He studies her expression — the shock in her eyes, the stiffness in her posture.

Caleb stands up, straightening his posture. His eyes shift, guarded again. I'll have someone bring you water. Maya finally speaks, her voice barely above a whisper. What… what was that?

Caleb glanced back at her and paused. He took a step closer, his face calm and unreadable.

You don't need to worry. It was just a warning, he said, hiding what he truly did—and who he really was. Maya's brows drew together in confusion. A warning? From who?

Caleb sits on the armrest across from her, adjusting his cuffs casually. I should've told you earlier… I run a large business. And in that world, not everyone plays fair.

Maya looks at him, still overwhelmed, but processing. Your business made someone do this to you?

His expression gave nothing away, every trace of emotion carefully hidden. People use fear when they feel powerless. That's all this is.

Maya's fingers tighten around her sleeve as she stares at him. What kind of business do you run… that makes someone bomb your house?

Caleb meets her gaze directly. High-stakes investments. International partnerships. Big money. And big enemies. Maya stays silent, unsure if she should believe him — but she nods faintly.

Caleb kneels in front of Maya again, his tone gentle but firm. If you need anything… tell me. Or the guards outside. We'll take care of you.

Caleb stood and made his way to the door. He opened it and slipped into the hallway. Caleb faces the guards stationed outside Maya's room.

Caleb's voice was firm, carrying quiet authority. Double the patrol on this floor. Protect her—no one gets in or out without my permission. And keep it quiet. Don't scare her.

Henrik came forward, brows furrowed. Caleb shifted his gaze to meet him. Find out who's behind this. Check every detail — cameras, staff, visitors. I want full security on high alert.

Henrik gave a sharp nod. Understood, boss. We'll make sure it's low profile—she won't even notice. Caleb watches the corridor quietly as guards begin their silent rounds.

Caleb strides into his private study, closing the door behind him. He commands one of his trusted men via secure earpiece. Review all camera footage from the past week. Every entry and exit. No one leaves or enters without my approval.

He walked over to the large screen, scanning the footage with sharp, calculating eyes. Guards slipped quietly through the mansion, their patrols around Maya's room tightening with each passing moment.

Maya notices a new guard lingering just outside her door — but it's discreet, not alarming. She watches quietly, uncertain but trying not to show it.

Caleb leaned forward in the study, his face set and grim. A message… but from whom? And why now?

Maya sits alone on the edge of the bed, staring at the window. The room feels heavy. Her shoulders tense. She stands up slowly, walks toward the door, hesitates… then opens it.

As she stepped out, two guards turned to face her. Miss, is something wrong? one asked politely. Before Maya could answer, Henrik emerged from the hallway. Is everything alright? he asked calmly.

Maya's voice was quiet. I… I just wanted to see Caleb. Henrik nodded once, understanding without another word. He's in the study room. Come with me.

They walk through the hallway. Maya walks beside Henrik, nervous but trying not to show it. Outside the study, Henrik stops and lightly knocks on the door. Boss, Maya's here. She wanted to talk to you.

After a brief silence, Caleb's voice rang out from the study, flat and commanding. Let her in. Henrik opens the door and steps aside, letting Maya enter. Inside, Caleb is standing near a desk, sleeves rolled, reviewing something. He looks up at her.

Henrik gently closes the door behind her, then walks away to take a call. Brief silence between Maya and Caleb. She fidgets slightly.

Caleb's voice was calm, distant. What are you doing outside? You should've told the guards. Maya's eyes flickered with unease, her voice barely above a whisper. I… I felt uneasy in that room. I didn't want to be alone… so I came here.

Caleb watches her quietly, his expressions unreadable. You should've stayed in your room.

Maya looks down for a moment, then manages a soft smile. Maybe. But I guess I just needed someone to talk to.

Caleb doesn't respond. He turns slightly, back to reviewing files. Maya's voice took on a light tone, trying to ease the tension. …Also, I'm hungry For a brief second, something softened in Caleb's expression, though he didn't look at her. I'll have someone bring you food, he said.

Maya looked at him softly, hoping he'd say yes. Can we eat together? she asked

Caleb turned his head just enough to glance at her, then looked away again. His voice was flat. If you want.Yet there was something in the way she looked at him, so soft and pleading, that he couldn't bring himself to say no.

Maya quietly smiles to herself — a small, personal victory. The room remains cold, but something shifts.

Later, in a private dining room. The table is long, elegant. Maya sits at one end. Caleb at the other. A servant sets down plates of food quietly and exits.

Maya glanced at the food, then looked up at Caleb across the table, a small, half-smile tugging at her lips. I don't remember the last time I ate at a table this big. It feels… dramatic.

He focused on his plate, slicing his food without a glance. Maya's words came softly, an attempt to break the silence. …You always eat alone like this?

Caleb doesn't look up. I'm not the kind of person people want to eat with.

Maya blinks, surprised by his bluntness, but doesn't push. They eat in silence for a moment.

Maya looks up, her tone more thoughtful now. You know… even if you don't say much, I don't feel scared around you.

Caleb's hand pauses for a second, but he doesn't respond. Maya spoke softly. I mean… I used to. But now it feels different.

At last, he turned his gaze toward her, curiosity lacing his caution. You don't even remember who I am, he remarked.

Maya's lips curved into a faint smile. Then maybe you should start telling me. He reclined, his expression hardening once more. No need. You'll leave once you're better.

Maya's smile fades just a little. She looks down at her plate. Caleb watches her silently. His guilt lingers, but he says nothing.

Night blankets the mansion. Outside, guards silently patrol under dim lights. Inside her room, Maya is lying in bed. Eyes closed. Breathing calm now. Finally asleep. A gentle breeze moves the curtains slightly. The room is peaceful.

Meanwhile, in his private room, Caleb sat surrounded by luxury, the dim light giving the space a cold, distant feel. Caleb stands near the window, glass of dark liquor in hand. He stares outside, jaw clenched.

Memories of the explosion surged—Maya huddled, terrified, her delicate features etched with fear.Caleb returned to the present, draining his glass before pouring himself another. He sits on the edge of his desk, loosening his collar, eyes dark with thought.

Caleb deep in his thoughts, They crossed a line.

He looks at a file folder on the desk — footage, photos, fragments of clues. This wasn't just a warning… They knew what they were doing. He clenches the glass tightly — the guilt is still there… but now anger is surfacing.

In the middle of night. Inside the mansion, shadows stretch across the hallway. The atmosphere is quiet… too quiet.

Henrik walks briskly down the corridor, holding a tablet. His expression is tense and serious. He stops in front of Caleb's room, knocks once.

Inside, Caleb is still seated near the window, one hand holding a half-finished drink. His eyes are cold.

Henrik enters quickly, wasting no time. Boss. Security just recovered something. From the northeast cameras — near the perimeter wall.

Henrik hands the tablet to Caleb. The screen is paused on a grainy black-and-white frame. In the footage, A tall man in a dark coat and full mask, partially hidden by trees, moving along the mansion's outer fence.

On Another frame , the masked man looks directly into the camera. As if he knew.

Caleb's eyes darken. He stares at the screen in complete silence. Henrik spoke quietly, tension in his tone. This wasn't just a warning.

Caleb sets the drink down. His jaw clenches. His voice is low, controlled, dangerous. They wanted to be seen.

This isn't over.
