"Morgana, I really did not mean to do what happened, and I'm so sorry," Mira finally speaks, her voice low and tight, barely carrying over the quiet hum of the moving car.
It's the first thing she's said since they pulled out of the pack house gates.
For a brief moment, something deep in her, something soft and utterly foolish, convinces her that she can actually use a friend right now.. that maybe, just maybe, Morgana's sudden kindness is real, that maybe she's not alone in this.
It's stupid and she knows that, she knows exactly who Morgana is, what Morgana has done, how Morgana has looked at her since the very beginning, like she was filth tracked across clean floors.
She knows this is all wrong, that she shouldn't even let herself hope, but desperation has a way of clawing through logic, and Mira, shaken and too tired to sort the real from the fake anymore, gives in. Just for a second.
But Morgana says nothing.
