Kai stared at Alora as if she had just said the strangest thing he had ever heard. What did she mean by being friends?
Alora tilted her head and looked at Kai, who was silent.
"You don't want to?"
"What do you want me to do?" asked Kai.
Alora laughed, furrowing her brow. "Be friends. You and I will be friends. I'm not asking you to do anything."
Kai still didn't understand. He couldn't imagine the word "friend" the way Alora said it. He might understand better if the girl wanted to be his master.
"All right, you'll be my friend now," Alora decided. "We'll help each other. If you're in trouble, you can come find me, and I can come find you," she said.
Kai stayed silent, chewing his bread slowly, his head spinning. He was worried the girl might force him the way 1535 had. That girl had forced him to have sex in the bushes and got them into trouble.
