My breath caught in my throat.
'Did… did it just climb into the bed?'
My heartbeat quickened. My mind screamed at me to turn around, to look, to confirm that I wasn't losing it.
But my body refused to move.
I swallowed, my fingers slowly curling into the sheets. 'This is insane. It's just a wolf. Just a really warm, huge wolf… right?'
Slowly, I turned my head, just enough to glance over my shoulder.
My breath caught.
The wolf had climbed into my bed and curled against me like he belonged there. His white fur brushed softly against my nightdress, his head resting just behind my shoulder. His body rose and fell with every slow, steady breath.
"What are you doing?" I whispered, voice barely audible.
He didn't open his eyes. But his ears twitched, and his tail gave a faint thump, like he was pleased with himself.
I turned back around and stared at the wall. My heart was thumping. I wasn't scared… I was just confused.
