"The master… is dead?"
"Impossible!"
"This can't be real!"
The battlefield fell into stunned silence for a heartbeat, then erupted into chaos. While Earth's forces celebrated with shouts of victory, Thanos' vast army crumbled like a collapsing fortress.
Morale shattered. Blades slipped from trembling fingers, weapons clattered to the ground. Some soldiers dropped to their knees in despair, others turned to flee—but nowhere was safe.
Casualties skyrocketed as the last vestiges of fight drained from them.
Then—
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Deafening explosions ripped through the sky like the wrath of gods. The ground quaked under the shockwaves, sending dust and debris spiraling upward.
Every head turned instinctively. The massive flagship that loomed as a symbol of Thanos' might was now erupting from within, fire and plasma ripping it apart like paper.
WHOOSH!
A brilliant figure blazing with golden light burst free from the inferno, streaming across the heavens like a falling star turned divine weapon.
Captain Marvel.
"It's Danvers!"
Steve's face broke into a grin, the weary determination in his eyes softening into relief. With her here, victory was guaranteed.
"Hell yeah! That's how it's done!"
Rocket whooped, pumping a tiny fist in the air.
The other Avengers, battered but unbowed, beamed with renewed hope.
Meanwhile, Thanos' surviving troops gazed upward in horror, their despair solidifying into hopelessness.
But Carol wasn't finished.
She blitzed into the enemy fleet like a comet, her body a living warhead. Ship after ship went up in flames, hulls shattering like glass under her impact.
KABOOM! KABOOM! KABOOM!
The night sky became a storm of fire and twisted metal. Within minutes, the once-mighty armada was reduced to drifting debris.
One person. That's all it took.
The sheer destructive power was staggering. Even seasoned warriors—men and women who had seen gods fight—gaped in awe.
"Damn. She's even more impressive in person."
Alex let out a low whistle, unable to hide his genuine admiration.
WHOOSH!
Carol descended, her aura dimming but her presence no less overwhelming. She landed with controlled force, dust rippling outward, and stood only a few feet from Alex.
She ignored Thanos' lifeless body entirely. Her eyes, burning with a mix of shock, joy, and something far more complicated, locked onto Alex.
Longing?
???
Alex blinked rapidly.
What's with that look?
Did they… have history?
Please don't say we're a couple.
The thought was enough to make his stomach knot.
"Alex? Is it really you?"
Carol's voice trembled ever so slightly, and that tremor made Alex's heart jolt in unease.
She called him Alex—not "Homelander."
Oh no.
"We seem… close?" Alex ventured cautiously, forcing a light smile.
Carol's bright excitement dimmed as she studied him more closely. This Alex lacked the crushing, overwhelming presence she remembered. He felt… younger. Less burdened. Almost human.
"You're not my Alex, are you?"
Her expression wavered, the fire in her eyes giving way to sorrow.
Alex chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his head.
"But you're exactly as I imagined, Captain Marvel."
Carol froze for a heartbeat, then her lips curled in a faint, bittersweet smile.
"Interesting. You're not him, but… you have quite the story, don't you?"
Her composure returned in a blink, soldier's steel masking personal heartbreak.
"We'll talk after this."
WHOOSH!
She launched back into the air with a sonic boom, blazing like a sun as she tore through Thanos' remaining soldiers. Screams and explosions trailed behind her unstoppable advance.
"Well, if she's going all out…"
Alex rolled his shoulders, then simply vanished.
ZZZT-BOOM!
A storm of lightning split the battlefield, streaks of silver and blue crisscrossing through enemy ranks. Soldiers toppled like wheat under a scythe, entire squads erased in heartbeats.
"Those two are stealing my spotlight."
Tony muttered, mock-offended, before boosting his thrusters and soaring into the fray with Pepper.
"AVENGERS! FINISH THIS!"
Steve's voice rang out like a war drum.
Hulk thundered forward, smashing aside the broken enemy lines. War Machine's cannons blazed, Ant-Man surged to colossal size, and the Guardians fought with wild abandon. Scarlet Witch's crimson storms tore through the battlefield while Strange's portals bent reality to the Avengers' will.
The battle that had begun as hopeless was now brutal but short.
Within half an hour, Thanos' forces were nothing but bodies, broken weapons, and burning wreckage. The only survivor was Gamora, who had long since turned her blade against her father's cause.
Silence slowly settled across the field. The acrid stench of smoke lingered, mingling with the copper tang of blood.
But amid the devastation, the mood was triumphant.
"We… won."
Steve stood amidst the carnage, battered shield in hand, eyes glistening with the weight of history.
"We did, Cap." Bruce exhaled, his massive frame sagging with exhaustion and relief.
"Mr. Stark! We won!"
Peter swung over, his voice high with giddy disbelief.
"Yeah, kid. We did."
Tony's weary smile was small, but in that moment, it carried the warmth of the world.
