Chapter 2 - The Capital

In the Carriage

"So, Lionel, what is your purpose for being here in this kingdom?" Seraphina asked.

"I want to get stronger. I'm weak," Lionel replied casually.

"What do you mean weak? You single-handedly defeated all those goblins!"

"Yeah, but I'm still weak compared to the strong people in this world."

A few days and nights later, they finally arrived at the capital of Elarion. At the very end of the city stood a massive castle with two tall towers on each side.

The towers were built by the kingdom for the strongest people. The left tower belonged to the archmages. In this era, only three archmages remained. The right tower was for the strongest fighters, each with different classes: Spear, Sword, and Assassin. In each class, only two fighters were strong enough to qualify.

To enter the towers, you had to be at least level 70. The highest level ever recorded was 120. Only one person reached it—the hero himself.

The hero was different from everyone else. He fought every demon on the continent alone and defeated the demon king. After that battle, humans and demons now lived together in peace.

Leomord, the demon king, could control darkness. But the gods made a hero to defeat him because gods were not allowed to interfere in the human world. If they did, the world would collapse.

The hero Leon had blonde hair and blue eyes. He was kind but died after the battle because the demon king cursed him to age rapidly. He only lived to fifty years old. If the hero were still alive, he would be king. Instead, his child took over the throne.

Seraphina's father, Reiner von Elarion, was level 89. He was one of the strongest in the kingdom. One of his skills was controlling light, which he inherited from Hero Leon.

Hero Leon left his divine sword beside the throne. Only an angel or a new hero could wield it. In today's era, there was no demon king. The demon king could not be reborn. But there were still criminals and villains.

"Wow! The capital is huge!" Lionel said excitedly. "Amazing!"

"I know, right? Isn't it wonderful?" Seraphina crossed her arms and felt proud of the compliment about her kingdom.

"What's that building over there?"

"Oh, that's the Academy of Leony. It's named after the hero because he had all attributes. The school has different departments: Swords, Spears, Daggers, Marksmanship, Magic, Alchemy, and Blacksmithing," Seraphina replied.

"Wow! Is there an adventurer's guild here?" Lionel asked.

"Yes! Down that block, after the academy on the right side. You can see the huge building over there!"

I should apply and become an adventurer.

"Okay, we've arrived at the castle!"

The castle looked medieval but enormous. It had many rooms, and at the front gate stood many knights. They suddenly bowed as soon as the princess got out of the carriage.

"Come on, Lionel!" The princess was very excited.

Why is she so excited? I wonder.

After opening the huge door, they could see a very long hall. There were hallways on the sides with different rooms, probably for the maids and staff.

They arrived at another huge gate—the throne room.

They both went inside. A golden and red throne could be seen, and the king was sitting on it.

"Oh! My daughter, you're here! And who is that handsome, tall young man behind you?" the king asked.

"Greetings, Your Majesty. My name is Lionel. I got lost, and the princess brought me here."

"Oh, hello the— WHAT?! What is that outfit? It looks so elegant! Are you some kind of noble?" The king was shocked by how he looked.

Lionel wore a regal white outfit that radiated heavenly elegance. His long coat flowed like mist, made of ethereal fabric that shimmered subtly under sunlight—like woven starlight. The coat had silver embroidery along the edges, forming ancient, glowing runes that gently pulsed with divine energy.

Beneath it, he wore a fitted white tunic tucked into high-waisted trousers, both stitched with thread so fine it seemed unreal. A light blue sash wrapped around his waist, fastened with a silver buckle shaped like a winged crest.

His shoulder guards were minimal but refined—crafted from blessed mithril and designed to look like folded feathers. Silver arm guards protected his forearms, engraved with light-element symbols. From his back, two majestic white wings could be hidden—enormous, pristine, and soft like fresh snow.

A cloak-like mantle flowed behind him, split down the middle for his wings, with a faint aura of light trailing its edges. His boots were polished, knee-high, and reinforced with radiant metal—quiet when walking, yet firm when grounded.

Finally, his holy sword hung diagonally across his back. Its sheath was pure ivory with glowing sapphire accents, humming with divine power.

"And that sword! That's no ordinary sword, is it?!"

There were several ranks for weapons:

Common Uncommon Rare Ultra-Rare Legendary Imperial Divine Holy (Only available for angels and saints)

"No, Your Majesty, it's just an ordinary sword." Lionel was scared that the king might discover he was an angelic being that only existed in myths.

"Take it out then!" the king shouted.

"I'm afraid I cannot, Your Majesty. It's my property."

"How dare you disobey his order!" one of the knights shouted.

From the king's perspective, the sword looked divine. It was shining.

"I know, Father! I saw his sword slice through tons of trees like butter with only one slash!" the princess said.

"Yeah, I know it's not ord—"

Suddenly, Lionel vanished like a bubble that popped.

"Where is he? Find him! He's not an ordinary man! He's dangerous! We must get him and make him our ally!"

"Yes, My Lord!" The knights shouted and ran out. Every knight was ordered to find him as soon as possible.

At the Adventurer's Guild

"Whew! That was close. I almost got caught. And here I am at the adventurer's guild!"

He suddenly appeared in front of the adventurer's guild building. Even people around were shocked by how he suddenly got there.

Let's get inside!

He opened the door, and many people looked at him because of his strange clothing.

"What is he? A noble?" one of the adventurers asked.

"Isn't he handsome?" one of the female adventurers said.

He went to the receptionist.

"Can I register as an adventurer?" Lionel asked.

"Yes, of course! Everyone can be an adventurer!" the receptionist replied happily. She was blushing at the same time.

I don't know why every girl acts like this around me. Did God give me such a handsome body? Thank you, God! I love you!

"But before we start, can we measure your attributes?"

"Yes, ma'am!"

The receptionist brought out a black orb and said, "Put your hand here, sir." Lionel placed his hand on it, then...

System:You absorbed all the magic in the orb.

"What is this? Your MP is—"

"Shh! Don't tell anyone about it, not even the guild master here. Pretty please!"

People suddenly looked at them, then shrugged it off.

"Phew! That was close."

"Sir, are you even human?" The receptionist was confused. "I will make your rank start at D instead of A so nobody will be suspicious."

"Thank you!"

"Here is your guild card. You can pick up quests up to C rank only."

"Okay, I want to try a C rank quest!"

"Try this! White wolves—twelve of them. You will earn 120 gils."

120 gils equals 1,200 dollars, so 1 gil equals 10 dollars.

"Okay, I'll be back!"

Lionel left and walked around. Many people looked at him, especially girls. He walked and walked until he finally arrived at the gate.

"The quest said it's deep in the forest. Maybe I can encounter some monsters, level up, and evolve!"

Lionel left and went deep into the forest.

In the Forest

"Oh, there are goblins! Light Slash!"

Lionel walked around and finally arrived at the den of the white wolves, but it was empty.

"What happened here? Why is it empty?" Lionel wondered if something was wrong.

"This is suspicious."

Then suddenly, a huge snake appeared! Lionel was shocked.

System:Giant snake, Level 50. But you can handle it with your magic!
