She kept gently patting him, her voice soft and soothing as she whispered, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid. You won't have nightmares anymore. I'll stay with you."
He couldn't help but chuckle. Did she really see him as a child?
Yet the lingering fear slowly faded away with each gentle pat and her tender voice. Soon, drowsiness washed over him.
With her by his side… it felt like he didn't need to be afraid anymore.
Even Jeffrey himself was surprised that he fell asleep so quickly again.
As his breathing grew even, Rachel paused her movements and softly called out, "Jeffrey?"
He was asleep and didn't answer.
She let out a sigh of relief. Finally, he was asleep, and his brow was no longer furrowed like before.
When he slept, he looked like an angel, so pure and peaceful.
It was such a sharp contrast to how he appeared in front of others.
Or maybe… to her, he really was an angel.
