Rachel stared at Jeffrey, her thoughts drifting far away.
After a long silence, she finally said, "If that's the case, then maybe everything I went through… was just so I could meet you and fall in love with you. If I hadn't faced those hardships, we might never have crossed paths at all."
If she had never gone to prison, maybe she would have married Ralph, continued her career as a lawyer, and still struggled to fit into the Patel family after marriage.
Or maybe the Patel family would have opposed her from the start, and she and Ralph wouldn't have ended up together at all.
But no matter what, she wouldn't have met him that night in such a messy situation, and she wouldn't have taken him home with her.
If things had gone differently, they would have just passed each other like two parallel lines.
Jeffrey's eyelashes trembled slightly as he gently wrapped Rachel in his arms, pressing his face into her neck and breathing in her scent. "Yeah… you were always meant to meet me."
