Chapter 287 - Chapter 287 Family Banquet

After saying goodbye to Nawaki at the corner, Kawaki walked alongside Tsunade toward the Hokage Building.

He hadn't had enough time to share this good news yet.

The moment they entered the Hokage Building, Kawaki was already ready to show off.

Tsunade happily watched him act silly, with a warm, happy smile.

After receiving their fair share of congratulations, the two entered the office.

Poor Shouta sat there slumped beneath a mountain of paperwork.

"Hokage-sama, you're finally here!"

"You need to look at these documents right away."

Shouta quickly stood up and rushed over with several files in hand.

Before Tsunade could even speak, Kawaki eagerly snatched them away.

"You'll have to work a bit harder from now on—Tsunade's pregnant."

Kawaki gave Shouta's shoulder a pat and started flipping through the files. These were important matters that needed the Hokage's final decision.

"Is that so? Then congratulations to both of you."

At first, Shouta's face lit up with joy, but then his expression immediately dropped.

If he was already worn out now, how would he survive later?

"The capable carry more weight. Don't worry, I'll come help more often from now on."

Seeing Shouta's unhappy reaction, Kawaki quickly tried to comfort him.

If this assistant decided to quit, he'd be in serious trouble.

"Lord Kawaki, you promised!"

Shouta had no choice but to agree, hoping Kawaki would keep his promise.

As for Kawaki's capabilities, Shouta had no concerns at all.

"I heard him say it myself," Tsunade finally spoke, already imagining herself freed from her cage-like workload.

Thinking back, she really should've gotten pregnant earlier.

"Now that Lady Tsunade has confirmed it, you can relax."

Kawaki said casually without realizing what kind of life lay ahead of him.

"If that's how it is, then it's settled."

Shouta nodded satisfiedly and turned back to sit down.

"Grandma told me you should rest well today."

Kawaki helped Tsunade to sit at her desk, making a big show of it right in front of Shouta, the poor bachelor.

"She's barely even pregnant—does all this have to happen already?"

Shouta muttered under his breath, though unfortunately for him, Kawaki still caught it.

"You wouldn't get it—you're not married."

Kawaki stabbed another knife into Shouta's heart.

"Fine, forget I said anything."

Afraid Kawaki might continue, Shouta quickly interrupted.

"Just wait until you go through it yourself—you'll get it then."

Kawaki spoke with the air of a wise mentor who'd seen it all, his smug grin as irritating as ever.

Shouta ignored him, leaving Kawaki no choice but to give up.

"I'll handle these documents. You just watch."

Kawaki made a big show of pulling up a chair beside Tsunade and sitting down.

"All right."

Tsunade was perfectly fine relaxing—it wasn't like Kawaki going to school or not made much difference anyway.

Time passed slowly, and oddly enough, Kawaki acted completely different today.

He got through the paperwork diligently, leaving Tsunade with zero worries.

When sunset painted the sky red, Kawaki finally stretched his arms.

"Well, see? I'm totally reliable, huh?"

Kawaki neatly organized the completed documents and proudly presented them to Tsunade.

"Not bad at all. You've definitely earned some rewards."

Tsunade didn't hold back her praise.

Exactly. You should know who we are by now.

Kawaki had a smug grin on his face, beaming brightly.

It's only been half a day—what's there to brag about?

Shouta had learned his lesson this time and was silently muttering to himself.

Shouta.

At the sound of his name, Shouta almost jumped—he hadn't even heard Kawaki speak.

Yes, Lord Kawaki? Shouta paused his writing and replied calmly.

We're just about done here. We'll head back first.

Kawaki and Tsunade tidied up their desks, preparing to leave.

Alright, I'll go home later too.

Seemed like a false alarm—Shouta relaxed a little.

Don't stay too late. Your health comes first.

Before leaving, Tsunade gave him a gentle reminder.

For quite some time now, Shouta had worked diligently, and Tsunade had noticed every bit of it.

But with him, "later" could mean anything.

I understand, Hokage-sama.

Shouta waved with a smile.

In truth, he didn't mind the job at all—it was even kind of fun.

Watching Kawaki and Tsunade walk out, Shouta thought he probably should find himself a wife soon too.

He couldn't keep living off dog food forever!

Kawaki and Tsunade arrived at the Senju house once again, still a little early for dinner.

Kushina had already returned and was chatting with Misaki in the living room.

Sister Tsunade, I heard you're pregnant!

Kushina, always impulsive by nature, rushed forward without hesitation.

Just like Kakashi, she reached straight for Tsunade's stomach with her hands.

She crouched down, ready to press her ear against it, expecting to hear something.

Come on, that's silly.

You're barely a few days along—you won't hear anything.

Tsunade chuckled and held back Kushina's hand as it rested on her red hair.

Oh… okay then.

Kushina pouted slightly but gave up.

Where's Nawaki?

Kawaki looked around. It was strange not seeing Nawaki—the kid practically shadowed Misaki everywhere except when he was asleep.

Nawaki ordered a cake and went to pick it up.

He said he wanted to celebrate today.

Misaki explained, clearly touched by Nawaki's thoughtfulness.

This kid...

Tsunade didn't finish her sentence, though a clear smile spread across her face.

Hearing the chatter, Mito stepped out from the dining room.

You've arrived.

It's been years since I last cooked.

This chapter isn't over yet!

I wonder if you'll still like the taste.

Mito had personally taken to the kitchen today especially for Tsunade.

I'm so jealous.

Grandma never cooked for me.

Kushina chimed in.

Of course, she never considered how old Mito had gotten by the time she came around—how likely was it for her to feel like cooking?

Besides, those dishes might not even be just for Tsunade.

They might've been specially prepared for her unborn great-grandchild.

Grandma, you spoil me too much.

Tsunade let go of Kawaki and ran forward to hug Mito.

As a child, she had loved Mito's cooking the most. Unfortunately, she herself had never inherited Mito's culinary talent.

All right, all right.

Try them first before getting too excited.

"Come on, I already said that," Mito shooed Tsunade away, though her expression clearly showed confidence in her own cooking skills.

"It was Grandma who made it. Of course it's delicious."

Tsunade still acted like a child, clinging to Mito's hand.

"I've barely even tasted Grandma's cooking."

At this moment, Nawaki walked into the living room holding a cake.

"Don't act as if Grandma plays favorites."

"When I was little, I just loved snacks. Eventually, I just stopped asking you to make them for me."

As Mito brought up Nawaki's childhood memories, everyone chuckled and agreed with a chuckle.

"Back then I was clueless—didn't know any better."

Nawaki awkwardly laughed while making a self-deprecating remark.

"That was all on you. You even used to complain about my cooking!"

Tsunade indignantly added another comment right behind him.

"C'mon, Sis, let's at least stay reasonable here."

"How is that reasonable? Your cooking's just not great—what am I supposed to say?"

Nawaki vividly recalled how, back when they were both younger, Tsunade had forced him to eat until he threw up.

Tsunade herself didn't believe him at first, but she ended up throwing up too.

"Oh yeah? Say that one more time?"

Tsunade must have recalled those old stories as well. She pointed one finger at Nawaki angrily, clearly embarrassed and furious.

"Hahaha~"

Watching the sibling showdown about to blow up, the onlookers burst into laughter.

The family banquet hadn't even started yet, but the atmosphere was already warm and full of life.
