Anna stepped out of the holding cell, her legs moving stiffly. She drew in a breath of relief as she stepped out, only to see two figures waiting in the corridor.
Aidan.
Jayden.
Her feet halted of their own accord, as she flickered her eyes back and forth, searching their faces.
Aidan stood with his arms folded around his bosom, exuding an infuriating calmness, while Jayden stood still, his hands tucked into the pockets of his tailored jacket.
With her gaze still on Jayden, she said. "Thank you."
She heard Aidan scoffed, but she refused to look at him.
She didn't even know whether to be upset with him or not. Just a few hours before her arrest, she had been so mad at him for that absurd contract.
But here he was again, rescuing her like he always does. Her chest tightened. He always came for her, and she didn't know if she had the right to be angry.
